Hi Jack

I too had a Radical Cystectomy and Ileal Conduit. I had invasive bladder cancer. This was done in June of 08. It was no picnic in the park but I am here almost 4 years later to give you my best wishes. You too will overcome this nasty disease. There are a lot of great people in here who will help you and answer your questions.
Good luck.

Jack,

Welcome and I am so sorry you have to be here. The RC ( radical cystectomy) is the gold standard. It is one of the best ways to get ahead of the cancer. I think you have made a wise decision.

There are many members (soon to be friends) that will chime in to help you along the way. You are not alone in this we are always here to answer any questions that you have. Even the DUMB ones. Please feel free to ask anything that you need, or want to know.

I am low grade non-invasive so I haven't had to go through this procedure,so I am not much help. I just wanted to say hi and welcome.

Well, today was decision day. My wife and I met with the doctor, discussed options, rates of success, and finally survival rates. I opted to go with the 75% survival rate - radical cystectomy. Looks like I will be going in for surgery around the 14th of May. Must admit, now that the decision has been made, it feels as though a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I will be going with an ileal conduit - it seems I have constrictions in my urethra that make creating a new bladder impractical. Anyway, just thought I'd finally say hello and ask anyone for advice on preparing and post op info.
