Dana, It's great that your husband is doing so well. I hope you are taking care of yourself also. I was still improving at a year out. So it can take some time, but is all worth it. As for the cancer coming back, there are no guaranties with cancer. It,s something we kind of all go through. "WHAT IF". Everyone deals with it differently. Hope all goes well for both of you.

Your husbands question is one of the great Unanswered questions I have had.

Did they get it all?
How do they know?
How will I know?
How do I NOT worry about this?

Answer: We really don't know. We all have to be vigilent and never miss an appointment!

As to the Depressing part..... It was kind of natural for me too.
But I soon realized that I couldn't go on thinking about it or I would indeed go crazy.

I know, I know..... I AM crazy!
But every once in a while I think about it and stew for a while.

Dana,

Over in the U.S., they kick us out of the hospital as soon as we can hold food down. We then go back to get the various tubes and drains out. I think it may be better to be able to stay longer, as your husband did, but our insurance companies don't really allow it.

The chemo after is a common precautionary measure in case there are any micro-mets (metastasis that is too small to see with current technology). With the micro-mets, it can be anywhere. Lymph system, bones, brain.... However, I think in your husband's case, it was caught soon after becoming invasive so there likely isn't any micro-mets.

He should certainly be proud of his recovery to date. He's (and you seem to be also) doing GREAT!!!!

Thank you so much for your words of courage, my husband was quite depressed today and after he read some of the replies he cheered up quite a bit. He thought that when he would be out of hospital he would be fine and back to work in a few days. I always knew this wasn't so because I had read many posts on the forum to know what I would be in for.
The hospital stay was long because he had open surgery and had quite a few pipes and bags sticking out of him for many days.
I did exactly what you told me, to trust the doctors and it helped a lot.
I do have another question, when we talk about cancer coming back, where does it come back to? There is no bladder or prostate, is it possible something got away?
The doctor said he got everything out and he will also begin a some chemo in about a week as a precaution. Is this what is usually done?

Your husband is WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY ahead of schedule! GREAT! As they say in the hospital "GAS Is GOOD!" It means things are chugging along inside. This is a Very good thing indeed. Not socially appropriate, but a VERY good thing now!

As for the leaking. What is up with you? How come I leaked like an uncontrolled pipe for 5 months; and even now almost 3 years out.... I still have nightime accidents once in a while.
You are to be proud of the 2 hour hold period and no daytime leaks..... What a GUY!

We are all proud of you! Kind of a long stay in the hospital but it appears as though they did you well.

As for the tired..... I could take a nap in the middle of a conversation! This too will pass.

I cannot say how good this news is for you. Cancer Free is worth the pain of recovery.

Sincerely
George
