Thanks everyone for your great suggestions. I also forgot to mention that Jim is on insulin for a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. Or so they think. Once all the chemo etc is done with they will monitor to see if it was reactionary or true diabetes. So, I am keeping the intake of carbs lower. Am about to toss that to the winds though to help keep his stamina up with the protein shakes. Hopefully since they are full of ...synes of this type or that as in lysine they won't impact his chemo. It's always something isn't it? This BC aint for the sissies in the crowd!

Lost 35 lbs myself. Loved every tasty morsel as I put 20 lbs back on.
Seriously, 6 small meals per day. Drank Ensure or Boost. They make weight Gain Products. Ate all the things I loved, but can now only eat in moderation. Ice cream, shakes, pasta, Yogurt etc.

You will look back on this period as one of the BEST things to happen during your recovery. Enjoy the Feeding frenzy. But don't get used to it. Appetite will return and so will the weight. I kind of got used to the food tray being brought up every few hours. :cheer: :cheer:

Between keymo & surgery I lost 25 lbs but I was overweight so both my surgeon and primary doc suggested I try to keep it off. It has helped with my blood pressure. I’m still overweight and trying to reduce intake. 47 lbs sounds like a lot but it seems like you are taking the right approach. I really like egg nog so lbs may be back up this month!

I'm 70, retired heat/air contractor. After 4 months of keymo ileal conduit (IC) surgery removed bladder & prostate May 2010

Also, shakes and malts with premium ice cream helped slow the weight loss down. Guilt need not apply! The protein whey works good with these too.
