they did a doppler to rule out a blood clot right? Its not hot or swollen right? I can see where the ibuprofen would help as its an anti-inflammatory but i would think cold rather than hot if it was a nerve.......but hey whatever works. I think i did the frozen bag of peas trick for 20 minutes and then off..maybe 4 times a day if i remembered.
Sure hope he can help.

I am taking your advice (Patricia) and seeing a chiropractor on Friday (Nov. 26). I am still having severe discomfort in my upper left leg. It bothers me a little during the day at times, but in the evening, it really flares up. The only things that seem to help are Motrin (IBUprofin), IcyHot, and a heating pad.

As is typical of doctors, none of them want to take responsibility for it. My surgeon assured me that it is not a result of his work. My oncologist assured me that it is not a result of the chemotherapy from earlier this year. And my primary care physician has no clue as to what it is.

being in one position for many hours does cause this kind of pain in many people. Mine did not start right away either after surgery. Mine went down the front of my thigh to my knee seemingly originating in the groin area...it was always better at rest and at night when not walking. All docs got the deer in the headlights look as if they'd never heard of it before...right!! My internist suggested the chiropractor which i would have never thought of but he had great faith in his ability to fix lower back and leg pain...ok i'll try. Honestly..he took a couple of x-rays...did a simple enough treatment to release the pinched nerve as it was referred pain. It worked.
If you're going to take the Gabapantin take the lowest dose you can. You don't need those side effects either.

Hi Patricia

Thanks for responding. The problem is ABOVE the knee - basically my thigh - not my groin area. It surrounds my thigh totally. My second surgery was 4 weeks ago, but this "sensation" only started about 10 days ago. My surgeon says that it might be a result of my chemotherapy, even though it ended in June. he also told me that there are no testicular nerves anymore, so it cannot be related to that area. My primary care physician thinks it is a nerve, but before doing any severe testing, he wants me on a drug called Gabapantin - which is a nerve drug used for seizures among other things. He also suggested that it might have been the way I was turned on the operating table.

I have not seen a physical therapist or chiropractor. The strangest thing is that is basically flares up in the evening, after dinner, and goes away after my nightly shower before I go to bed.

Is it in the front of the knee or behind it? I'm assuming your docs have looked at it and ruled out anything like a thrombosis? Its not hot or swollen ?
Many of us experience neuropathy after major surgery like this but its usually a bit higher up in the groin area. Mine was due to probably the position i was in on the table. Noone seemed to be able to help me but a chiropractor and he figured it out in 3 sessions.

I am new to this site/forum, so I was not sure of where to pose my question. I am currently experiencing discomfort in my left leg, above the knee. I think it may be a nerve, but it seems to flare up more in the evening. After I shower and go to bed, it eases up.

It is a weird feeling. It is not numb and it is not asleep (no tingling). But it is very uncomfrotable. A heating pad helps a little, and sometimes I put Icy Hot around the area. But I still can feel it.

Has anyone else experienced this feeling? What did you do about it? I have asked my urologist and my primary care physician about it, but they cannot seem to figure what it is or cure it.

FYI - I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in January and had surgery in February to remove my bladder, prostate, and 27 lymph nodes. My surgeon created a neobladder so I would not need a bag. This was followed by 3 months of chemo, which did not go well. I encountered numerous UTI's which brought me back to the hospital numerous times. I recently had follow up surgery because my right kidney was not draining properly. I am feeling pretty good right now, except for the discomfort in my leg.
