Another update

My husband had his cystectomy and neobladder reconstruction on 2/1. On 2/9 they took him back to surgery because an inside staple had popped when he was wretching from throwing up and his intestine poked through and they had to take him back to surgery to repair it. Then thay had to leave his incision open to let it heal from the inside out. He is just having an awful time getting the intestines to move again. They said he finally today has some slight bowel sounds. Whew. Wee on Day 13 in the hospital. But good the good news is that biopsy showed NO cancer in the lymphs or in the fat layer of the bladder.

so glad they were able to do the neobladder...thats a good sign. How many lymph nodes did they take? It usually takes about l0 days to get lab results on the nodes. Glad he's doing well.......Pat

Just thought I would update everyone........
My husband had his cystectomy and neobladder done on 2/1. He is doing well. The surgeon said that it looked good and the outside of the bladder looked good and so did the surrounding tissues and the lymphs which were all taken out. We are awaiting the biopsy results. We are on Day4 post op.
I know he has a long haul ahead of him and we will be checking your advice as we go. We are finding that the teaching in this area is not as good as what I hear from you
Thanks again ..all>

Hello Everyone,

Thanks again for all the input, We are scheduled for a second "opinion" with an oncologist and have made an appt to talk with the head surgical nurse at the init my husband will be going to. He is totally content with his surgical team and his uro oncologist. So the is good. He is scheduled right now for a Studor Continent diversion. I do not hink we have the big picture about this. We know HOW they do it, but my husband fears that he will be incontinent during the day when he is working and is worried about that part. Our Doc is very good and did give us his pagetr number to call at any time. So we are gathering more questions to talk to him about. The ones about recovery , normalizing and daily use. I am going to get my husband Craig to come to this forum...Now that surgery is getting close - more worry has set in.

***I am not not this far along treatment wise but my feelings on 2nd opinions***

Well I am finally scheduled for my biospy on 1/29 and I definitely suggest a second opinion. After getting the result on the scope from the first urologist that I had a bladder tumor nothing anybody wants to hear, but I have always laid my cards on the table and this urologist I just personally did not care for, just his ways and how he talked didn't cut it for me man this is my life here. I will be going to one of the best hospitals in Philadelphia so it was to me worth the wait and I will travel more but I got me a one of the best urologist/oncologist Dr. Wein. The first urologist I saw in no way compares to Dr. Wein it is like day and night. So I got a long road ahead of me but for me first thing I needed was to be content with the Dr. I would have. Also I got a packet with all the info I need on bladder cancer and also from this site on their homepage. I visit this site everyday to how different members are doing this is a great board. Now I am staying focused the best I can and not surfing the net because to me you can actually drive yourself insane if you try and read everything out there about this disease and I do not need that now I have more then enough on my plate now. Best Wishes To All, Joe
