Pat: my dad has been chewing gum! lol, I thought it was hilarious at first when they suggested it on Tuesday, but they said it does work, so we'll see! Thanks for the tips though!!

Duke: Thank you so much! I read your post to him and I think hearing stuff like that helps keep his spirits up.

He had an okay day, he found out he hates morphin. lol. He got all heated and just didn't like it, so they changed it to another pain reliever. But overall it was an okay today. They said his blood work looks great, so that's good and they started the nutrition right before I left and hopefully that will give him some strenth! I'll keep you guys posted!!!!

OHHH almost forgot!! We got the test results back from pathology and ALL the lymph nodes they tested came back negative!!!! So the doctor has declared his cancer free!!! He was a little heatd from the morphine when he got the news, but tonight before I left it really sank in!! He's soo excited and it really makes this journey worth it!

Jessica, I,m glad to hear your dad is doing well, and I know that at this point (well) still means he's feeling like crap!
I'm less then two months out from my surgery so I know how hard it is on him right now. I also know about trying to balance the pain meds and trying to get his digestive track working. I quit taking any pain meds after day four cause I knew i had digestive track problems in the past. So I,m hoping
his digestive track cooperates.
Just so he knows I,m less then 50 days out, and I'm feeling good!!!
Wishing the best for your dad.
Duke

Whew!...Ok thanks for clearing that up Jessica. He should be pouring out urine from the suprapubic cath and he will have lots of mucus in the beginning and it will have a tendency to plug up the cath so it needs to be monitored and i trust they are doing that and flushing it. Nausea quite common with this surgery...i even came home with pills to counter that when i occasionally had it. A little trick that they have just discovered is to have your dad chew gum..it gets the bowels moving.

I think I might have wrote that wrong, he is producing urine, it just isn't coming out of the hand grenage, it is flowing through the cathedar. Yesterday was a rough day and I'm getting ready to leave work now, but talked to the nurse this AM and they said he was a little nauseas. So not a great way to start the day. I'll try to post later when I have more details.

Jessica, I'm sure you being there has kept his spirits up. When Doug has been in the hospital, he always is happier during visits from our 25 year old daughter! Sounds like you are a wonderful daughter. Hope you see urine soon!
