Hi Sam,

I just came across this article
www.mayoclinic.com/health/cancer/HQ01135
"What to do when nothing tastes right"

I had taste and especially smell aversion for a good six months after beginning treatments for breast cancer. I couldn't be in the same room with coffee, it was so nauseating.

A strange metallic taste is not uncommon, I've heard this before. And isn't cisplatin derived from platinum which is a metal?

Hope it passes soon.

Thanks for your support.

Someone suggested baking soda mouthwash and he is trying that. If we can find an open store today we will get some Altoids. We have been following Zacheray's blog. It is heplful.

Happy New Year to all.

Sam,
I didn't have to have any chemo after my RC but my Mom had chemo years ago for her cancer and she found that the only thing that could get past that metallic taste in her mouth was Altoids because the peppermint in them is so strong. I have heard many people complain of that metallic taste in their mouth and unfortunately it seems to go along with the chemo. I know Clur has just gone through a round of chemo and if she comes on I am sure she will offer some suggestions. Also, someone named Zachary has a chemo blog he is writing and you can find it under cystectomy in a thread called Standing on My Head. It is a very good account of what he is going through and might help your hubby.
I wish you both Gods blessings to help you get through this trying time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with a bad taste in the mouth after having a chemo treatment? My husband had Cisplatin and Gemzar last week and Gemzar this week.
