I see that Shandra trained under Dr. Skinner at USC/Norris..probably Dr. Stein as well...my surgeon just took Dr. Skinners place as head of urology at USC/Norris and he brought a heck of a lot of people with him from Cleveland!!
They've bought 2 new buildings and are really going to grow. They've always been tops in bladder cancer. I remember Dr. Stein telling me "We train them" and the big cancer centers steal them away"...
Thanks for the bio.....she'll go on my list. I have so few that are not on one coast or the other!! But the ones i have are really good ones.

George,

That's the reason this isn't something to mess around with and getting it out is really important to do quickly if it becomes invasive.

Getting it out before it can show up elsewhere is key.

I read the Q&A and everything makes sense. I got that stomach shock when the answer to "will cancer come back?" and they said the cancer would take other forms and be almost impossable to treat. WOW that really hits close to home.... my biggest fear.

Pat,

That page is from a female surgeon who does 2-3 cystectomies a week and approximately 70% of the cystectomies done in the state of Colorado.

If you click the "click here" link in the Q&A it is actually a care plan for the pouch (I thought it would be for the neo).

However, I agree that most of the Q&A does seem to be about the neo.

When I got my surgery and was asking my uro at Anschutz Cancer Center in Denver (University of Colorado Hospital) about how many he does, he did mention that there was another doc in their practice who does more than he. I was looking up bios for Rudy and read the info on her. I did know about her back when I had mine done but I was already well down the path with my doc (who was my 2nd opinion doc). Dr. Shandra Wilson is her name and she'd be my choice if I hadn't already gotten mine done, given that I'm in Colorado.

She's got a heck of a bio:

I found this when doing some research and thought it might be helpful info. It is a fairly comprehensive list of questions (with answers) about cystectomy. It ranges from who needs a cystectomy through dos and don'ts for patients.
