Hello Dan,

My regular family doctor also checked my urine often and found 8/10 times to have microscopic levels of blood.

After consulting with my Uroligist I was told that this was normal with the neo and not to be alarmed.

Our new bladders made of intestines have bacteria present that a normal bladder will not have. My Urologist said that he would only prescribe antibiotics if I was feeling sick with fever, pain in lower back and have an odour from the urine.

Of course if I had a regular bladder we all know this now to be different and the alarm bells would be ringing.

I too had a tumor of 5-6 cm and this was not detected by the CT as it was 6cm long and 1 cm wide...so a very flat tumor. The only sign on CT was of the 2cm cauliflower tumor in the bladder itself. Scary and very sneaky really to think that it can grow undetected. I am not sure if a PET could have picked this up though.

Regards
Leigh

Hi Dan, my husband started to show blood in the urine occasionally about a year after the neobladder. It usually happens after a long cycle. He's fit and active and the urologist thinks it's just irritation of the neobladder because of this (he sees this in other active people too). All his tests have been normal, he's almost 3 years from diagnosis. It's important to follow up your symptoms to exclude a recurrence in the urethra or ureters. Hope all goes well with your appointment,
Mona

Hi,

Sorry I cannot tell you if it normal or not, but I too have blood in my urine the last few months. I got my neo March 2007. My tumor did not show on the ct scan either, but my final path report was P3b no positive nodes.
I'll be watching the thread and sending you my best, Holly

Hi folks,

I had a 5 cm, stage 2, high grade tcc in the back of my bladder, which was removed (Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa) and replaced with a neobladder about 16 months ago. Nothing was found in the prostate, lymph nodes or in the ct scans, but there was evidence of angiolymphatic invasion.

The last time I was at Moffitt was about 8 months ago. They did more ct scans, but found nothing. I haven't been back because I lost my health insurance, and I didn't want any more x-rays anyway. (Interestingly, my original 5cm tumor was not visible on any of the ct scans which were taken prior to the neobladder operation).

Here is the basis of my question. I was recently at my family doctor for a checkup (he doesn't know anything about neobladders). I've been having some hot flashes (I do have low testosterone), but otherwise I feel great and have lots of energy. He did a normal urine test to look for blood and infections. The urine test came back as positive for blood but not infection. I'm scheduled to see the doctor next week to discuss the results.

My question is: Is it normal for a urine test to show trace blood 16 months after neobladder?

Any info or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dan in Florida
