Pat,

So sorry to hear you are having problems. It does sound like it could be a partial blockage. It comes in waves and builds in intensity. The waves get closer and closer together.

Since my two hospitalizations from blockages, I have had a ocuple/few partials. Actually, the second hospitalization was a partial also. Kind of feels like someone stuck an oven heating element in there and turned it on, then off for a few minutes and then back on for a few seconds, rinse, repeat.

Pain meds help and also slow down the intestines so they aren't so aggressive about trying to push through the blockage so that helps to reduce the cause of the pain.

Thing is, a partial blockage "should" show up on a CT. At least it did for me. For mine, they are right at the staple area where my intesine was reconnected so the pain is dead center just a bit above my navel. Since you have Indiana it could be your staples are a bit off center.

The bowel sounds I had were a lot like a creaky pirate ship. Even my doc described them that way. It's trying to push through but can't.

All that said, my description just covers IF it was a blockage. You definately have the right idea getting yourself someplace where they can check the ureters and everything else!

Hope you get this taken care of quickly and that the pain was just a one time deal that helped you find out about the narrowed ureters early so it could be taken care of. One of those "lucky coincidences". :)

I am so sorry to read that you are unwell. But whats this about "no support system"? Nonsense- we are all here just as you are for all of us. Book that flight & get to the bottom of this problem. We need you here & we need you well. Take care- we will be thinking good thoughts- Lorrie

here i am 6 l/2 yrs out and feeling smug about it...and wham i'm getting peristolic waves in my lower abdomen where my old bladder used to be..comes and goes like labor pains...lots of fun. Food or drink definately brings it on. Went to the ER yesterday and they gave me the new nurses who did not know how to put in a needle to draw blood except to have it run all over my top and bed sheets....then nice little man comes in with a butterfly and does the job. Next they prep me with a clear liquid to drink to have a CT scan to check for diverticulosis...that got my Indiana's panties in a twist as it had a diuretic in it and every 20 minutes i was eliminating it. I gave them a urine sample which of course looked a bit like egg drop soup and they immediately said i had a bladder infection...i said no i don't...thats normal with a Indiana or neo and i'm not symptomatic...Ask them to check my white blood count which wasnt back yet. Finally go in for the CT and they also did a contrast to check other stuff out. Could not find anything as far as infection with the diverticuli that i do have but they did notice that both of my ureters are narrowed from my CT scan last February with an explanation of "undetermined"..Well that certainly comforted me...In other words you dont know? The woman in the next bed was vomiting blood every 20 minutes and they still hadn't moved her someplace where she obviously needed and endoscopy...the sound something like a bear belching! Then i started to cry like an idiot......feeling sorry for myself that i had no support system...my husband gone..how dare he.....my kids to busy for mom anymore...so i signed a paper saying that I might die if i leave and got the hell out of there.
I felt defianately like they'd been watching too much Grays Anatomy or ER. one young intern aswered the phone and was trying write down what another doctor was telling him and he kept saying hypraconneticut...NOOOOO...how about hyperkinetic or maybe hypokinetic...poor patient...hope he finally got it when the doc spelled it out for him. Anyway so now i'm home..haven't eaten in 3 days..trying to drink Gatoraid and other liquids as everything starts a spasm. Called my local uro..he thinks i need a gastroenterologist......I'm definately getting on a plane to USC/Norris for the narrowed ureters to Dr. Gill..waiting for his call Monday. I had all my scans and medical sent to him. Does this sound like blockage, partial blockage, or Irritable bowell to anyone? I have bowel sounds but not much is moving out if you know what i mean. OH CRAP.........Pat
