Pat,

Yes, I too am glad to hear your are YELLING. YES!!!! Gracie called me yesterday and left a message at home for me...she was so concerned and wanted to know if I had heard from you. My Yahoo email hasn't been working right over the last few weeks so didn't know if you had tried to reach me or not. I called and left her a message, indicating I was concerned but not "worried" about you as you are the smartest warrior I know and you would soon get to the heart of the problem. You aren't one to just wait for the doctors to play their games. Anyway, GOOD JOB! Glad you are on the mend. Thanks for the update. Hugs, Melodie

Glad to hear that it is resolving. It sure is taking quite a long time though. All of mine had cleared faster than that. I had a partial that lasted a few days (four at the most).

When I first felt it coming on, I cut out everything (no food or drink) for about half a day. Then a couple ounces of water or crystal light at a time, then easily digestible foods but in small amounts. Along with all of this, I would take some pain meds to slow things down and to help with the pain.

A full block is REALLY painful. Partial all depends on how blocked.
Since you said it felt like labor pains, I guess I know can say I know what that's like.

When I had the full block, I described the pain as: Just like if there was electric heating element inserted into the abdomen that gets turned on for a few seconds up to ten seconds and then turned off for a couple of minutes and then back on. Over time, it gets turned on for longer and the off time intervals reduce until the on times are almost on top of each other.

The intestines sure do seem to work REALLY hard at trying to push things through!

Hope this is the last one you get!

Mike

OK..DO NOT LISTEN TO INTERNS THAT TELL YOU YOUR URETERS ARE NARROWED....
(Yes i'm yelling!)..i picked up a copy of my CT scan and report...what it said was that i had mild hydronephrosis bilaterally and a distended pouch.......well yeah!!...there was a diuretic in the contrast liquid they make you drink before a scan for diverticulitis but they apparently don't think thats important enough to tell you. My Uro..bless his heart...informed me and told me to get out the gatoraid and get my electrolytes back in order and the hydronephrosis was temporary as my poor little kidneys were being bombarded with diuretics.......GEEZ (Yelling again)
Ok so i have a partial blockage which is resolving itself..i hope..i think...things are moving...slowly. Need a colonoscopy next week. A little late in the game for partial blockage unless my lifting and planting big heavy stuff had something to do with it?
Anyway my head is somewhat clearing....finally. I'm really lousy at giving my self advise!! Pat

Pat,

A partial blockage can be difficult to spot. Depending on where it is, sometimes bowel sounds are the key to diagnosing the partial blockage.

Hopefully, the pain has subsided somewhat from what it was earlier. If so, then it may be resolving (but this can take a long time--few days) itself.

If you can tolerate water, you certainly want to keep hydrated and take little swallows enough to do so.

If not, then get thee to a hospital to at least get IV fluids to prevent dehydration. When I've had partial blocks, I was able to drink water. I had left over pain pills so that helped. My trigger for going to the hospital was whether or not I could hold down small bits of water (taken frequently). If so, I'd stay home and take pain pills and wait it out. If not, it was off to the ER.

Best of luck!
Mike
