Just wanted to say hi Barbara. My husband was raised in Ocala and gradutated from the old Ocala HS. I was born and raised in central Florida but we retired to NC.

You have been through so much. I had my bladder removed with illeal conduit in Sept but my side effects have been minimal. I am happy that you are on the mend and doing better.

Hi Pat

Thanks for answering my message. The fistula was on my intestine, I think. When I went back into the hospital they put me on TPN for two weeks. That is feeding me through an IV and having nothing by mouth at all. Just a sip of water to take meds. It healed on it's own. I had all of my surgery in Ocala. We have wonderful hospitals and Drs here. Thanks for the congrats on being married 51 years. It is quite a milestone. I hope to have many more. I hope you are doing well also.

Thanks again.

Wow Barbara .. you've really been through the mill. Hopefully you're on the mend now. Where was the fistula located? I've heard of them happening after a neobladder and i've heard of them after childbirth....so just curious.
Being in Ocala was your surgery in Orlando?
Congrats on 51 yrs of marriage.....thats quite a feat in itself.

I was diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer on April 28, 08. I had my first surgery on June 9th to remove the bladder and my second surgery on June 27 to repair a leaking ureter. I was in intensive care for about 2 weeks and then went to a regular room for another two weeks. I went home from the hospital on July 4th only to go back on August 6th with a fistula. I was there for almost 3 more weeks. I went home and was there for one week and went back in for another week. I had 3 spots on my incision that would not heal. They kept oozing pus like stuff. I had a wound vac for a month or more and finally ended up having another surgery in November to go in and clean the wounds out and finally they healed. I have run temps off and on but have not landed back in the hospital so far. I feel really good now and hopefully I will stay this way. I have been reading about everyones form of cancer and I am glad that I have an ileal conduit with my pouching system on the outside. It is like second nature to me now. Thanks for listening to me.
