Oh, Cynthia...that is WONDERFUL news. I'm so happy to hear that. And I'm sorry that the surgery was so wicked. Are you in much pain now, or is it controlled? And is that what has kept you down this week? And the path reports are golden, aren't they. It's SO nice to hear that your doctors know exactly what they are doing....

I am sorry this has taken so long to get out but I am just now starting to rejoin the land of the living again. The surgery was a little more than I had bargained for once they got in they found that some of my stoma had dead tissue attached to it as well as was being obstructed by scar tissue. So it had to be reconstructed as well as the left kidney and ureter removed. There is some good news attached to all of this however. The pathology came back and there is no new cancer the finding was xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis
(XGP) and diffuse fibrosis. This is a very rare type of infection of the kidney about 1% that could only be cured by removal of the kidney trigged by the ureter being blocked by scar tissue and causing the kidney not to be able to drain correctly. All the scaring may be from the extensive pelvic radiation during my tratetment. The other good news is that quite possibly the correction to my stoma will take care of the sever metabolic problems I have been having and that the chronic pain I have had was caused the kidney condition. We will be traveling back to MA on Sunday and Ed and I will be very happy to be back home. Thank you all for your support and love I don’t know how we would have ever made it this far on our journey without you all.
