Holly, Don't you just love it when you have more questions after the appointment than when you arrived. I hope the complete reports are favorable. I will add your brother to my prayer list. Julie

Hi,

Well I made it to the Dr appointment on time (I leave home at 5:30 am to get into Chicago by 8:30), and the Dr was running late so the anxiety was acute. I also did not take my morning dose of oxycontin in hopes it would help him figure out the where and why of my pain quicker...The results of the scans were not completed yet but he called the dept and got a verbal preliminary stating they see calcifications and arthritis but not any obvious metastatic lesion ;). He felt this was good but stated the review wasn't complete and also that it was only of the pelvis - he thinks my pain is from the femur which was not imaged. No reports were available on the other imaging yet. He wants me to start taking Lyrica and warned me a likly side effect is euphoria...LOL maybe I won't need the antideppressant anymore !
Overall I guess we are still trying to figure it out. Anyone take Lyrica? All these meds are intimidating me. The oxicontin actually keeps my pain around a 2 most days, but it has been at 5 or better some days even with it. And I don't feel "medicated" as I feared I would.
Thank you for adding my brother Steve to your prayer lists. He is 40 - 3 years younger than I. He has no insurance and it seems to be rather advanced. On Tuesday I am going to visit him and hoping I can help him find a way to get the transfusions to stall off the disease a bit. I doubt he would be eligible for transplants as he has also been a big drinker the last 20 years. No doubt this has also contributed to his advanced stage.
God bless everyone and thank you, Holly

Hi,

Well, today all my MRIs with and without contrast and my chest CTs were done :'( They are questioning if my shoulder tumor is really benign. Tomarrow morning I am fairly sure the onconurologist will have the results and I am a bit nervous as I have an appt with him. Lately life has been messy so I've been quietly praying for peace to return. My younger brother was diagnosed last week with "alpha 1" - a genetic defect that affects the lungs and liver significantly. I am trying to be optomistic but it sure is getting tougher to do at the moment. As always, you are all in my prayers and I will post when I hear something. Love, Holly
