Peter,
This is interesting, just before surgery they give you an estimated time for surgery, Genes was 550 minutes, thats if no complications arise, and Pat is so right, everything depends on how it goes, longer doesn't necessarily mean
anything, it just means in your case it was a little more difficult. I am sure everyone would like to have the shortest period in surgery but its an individual process.!!!Ginger

Peter...time of surgery really depends on the surgeon or any complications. I had the same Laproscopic surgery from Dr. Gill with an Indiana Pouch and my surgery only took 4 hrs 20mins. The only other surgeon in the room was a top OB/GYN who removed all the female stuff.
I'm sure your surgeon at MSK will give you an estimate of time in surgery.

Peter,

No lifting for 6 weeks, after 5 weeks we did some things, shopping, small trips out, no driving 6 weeks,, Gene went back to work at 7 weeks, but only 3 days 6 hours a day, that was enough to tyre him out, We went to Vegas in January, no problems. It was a test vacation...GET A PRIVATE ROOM FOR YOUR SURGERY!!!! No limitations now, golf is in, swimming is good, exercise is great ....Ginger

If you go to Invasive and go back to page 13 or 14 you can read his progress from 2 days before surgery...also in caregiver I wrote a topic on BE PREPARED NOT SCARED, IT MAY HELP AS WELL!!!!!!

Please re-read my reply as I added some things. Genes surgery started at 7:45 am
His bladder was out at 12:45 and deversion started, I had a hand held monitor that informed me along the way, that was great, he was out at 3:00. The doctor got called to another situation so I wasn't called until 5,, got me worried, I never found out why it took so long but still am glad it was done,,,maybe just he takes his time. We were at the hospital at 5 am,,,taken right back,, left us at 6:30.am
Gene had two wonderful black women who esorted him in his bed to surgery, they said he was KING OF SURGERY THAT DAY...SEEMS A WHOLE CROWD OF UPCOMING SURGEONS TO BE WERE GOING TO WATCH,,IN THEATRE I GUESS..THEY HAD HIM LAUGHING WHICH REALLY BROKE THE ICE FOR US....

HE ALSO HAD PROSTRATE REMOVED, EVERYONE DOES THAT IS HAVING A R/C,,I think!!

Peter,
Gene was in the Cleveland Clinic for 6 days, his biggest complaint after surgery was dry mouth and craving water..then nausea , this is right after recovery room, Get a private room!!!!!!! AFTER COMING HOME THE BOWELS DON'T COMPLY, HELP IS NEEDED AS THEY GET DISTURBED. Now they are back to normal but took several months. Weight loss, 30 pounds, not all loose this much but its to be expected. His surgery was 6 hours, his bladder was removed laproscopically, ask about it, you don't have a 8 inch cut but 4 small ones...much better, Dr. Campbel did the deversion for the bag,,it works great, no complaints now, just glad to be alive!!!!
DR. GILL DID THE LAPROSCOPIC REMOVAL..HE IS AMAZING!!!!
ALSO, PETER KOMONOS HAS THE BAG AS WELL, HE HAD HIS SURGERY A FEW MONTHS AGO NOW, HE APPROVES OF THE BAG IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS HE AND GENE TALK ALL THE TIME..THEY ARE BAG BUDDIES,,,WE ARE IN OUR 60'S,, AND MY HUSBAND NOW HAS THE SHOT FOR SEXUALLY FUNCTION, WE TRIED IT FOR THE FIRST TIME, IT WAS REMARKABLE, SAME AS BEFORE ALL THIS HAPPENED, SO WE ARE BACK TO LIVING AGAIN, EVEN IN THE BEDROOM!!!!
