I was 66 when I had my r/c. I have the outside bag as Rick does. I found my recovery to be slow, I lost 30 pounds, not everyone does, my issues were leg pain upper groin area, all due to lymph node removal, my next hurdle was bowel issues, I had to have milk of magnesia for at least 4 months to help out, always ask for what to take, weeks 2 and 3 were hard, mostly walked the drive and rest, eating good meals to gain back weight,I walked more and more weeks 4 and 5, had some depression, I had leaksge from my penis for 4 weeks, so I had to wear depends, not all have this either, but my surgeon said its the fluid from the surgery site, it gets absorbed by the body eventually. My wife was outstanding, she didn't miss a trick, she did alot to boost my outlook and kept me busy. The Cleveland Clinic was great, one week after surgery you have to visit your surgeon. We went to Vegas 4 months out of sirgery and now we are same as usual, except I have a bag, at times I feel sorry for myself but I get over it and go on... I had no chemo no radiation, I was stage 3 T-2 muscle invasive, all clear after the path report. So there my picture, of what happened to me,,it all goes away in time,,THE KEY WORD IS TIME...

Kat,
I had my Chemo after my Bladder Removal. I would think having Chemo before surgery is a factor in how long it takes to recover from surgery.

Recovery time is dependent on allot of other factors too:
- Physical Conditioning
- Other Health Issues
- Diversion Choice
- Complications during Surgery
- Ability of the Surgeon
- Recovery support with Nurses and other staff
and probably many more

Providing the first three will give information for like patients to provide their experience to you.

Take Care

Rick

Hi,

My father is currently receiving chemo (MVAC regimen)and once he is finished, he will have a scan done to see how the tumor is reacting to the chemo. Depending on the scan, the doctor will either have him undergo additional chemo or if all looks well, he will schedule surgery to remove his bladder. I know everyone recovers differently but what is the estimated time of recovery when patients can move around, etc.

I appreciate your feedback on your experiences. I have been reading your posts on the Forum to become as educated as possible so I can help my father out as much as I can and know what he may encounter as he goes through this. This Forum is very helpful, thanks everyone.
