New Neobladder - Need Advice about leaking

11 years 6 months ago #15596 by Dale50
You can also contact Dr. Seth Lerner at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston at 713-798-4001. I believe he does about 2 a week, he did my neo-bladder in December and I was back at work in 4 weeks. The training of the neo-bladder is not that bad and I can sleep 5 hours at night without using the bathroom but I had to work up to this amount of time.

USON,,,,,,I believe this is where you are going. From what I have read they have the
full staff of qualified surgeons to do either dversion. The next choice would be out of state for you as they seem to be the only Nevada group with credentials. You can look up Vanderbilt, Ketttering Sloan, Mayo Clinic. and compare....my husband is doing great, he is back to work, no cancer after surgery, clean path report, no chemo, no radiation..ask lots of questions,,,, Ginger

Grandpa, My husband had a decrease in energy along with blood in the urine and frequent urination...it came right out of the blue...we hoped it was just a prostate problem being 66, and no you can't have both an external bag and a neo, its one or the other. What hospital group are you using,in Vegas..and if you want to know how many surgerys they have done,, just ask them.. before the surgery you will have an apptointment to talk about all 3 deversions, the explanation should be quite intense covering everything. Then the decision, you have up until one week before surgery to decide, as I said before at 66 the external bag is a good option, unless your willing to accept the training of the neo, which takes awhile to get down..but worth the effort from what I have been told. having full body bone scan next wed..have had ct scan/ultrasound and since having ended up with "blood infection" from scope/prostate biospy was in hospital for 2days and had battery of test.
why both ext bag plus neo ?? was leaning towards ext one.
using large urology group..comes recommened from other drs/nv cancer inst/past users..once "scraping" is done..i will take results to nv cancer inst for 2nd opion
still nervous if cancer has spread
did anyone have signs of bc coming on..other then blood in urine

thank you for all the help

Grampa,
Your choice of hospital to have this surgery is very important, it should be a large cancer institution with a devoted urology dept. that does this surgery often. We here all ask for a second opinion as well. You have to have pelvic scans, chest exrays, blood work and many procedures first to see if it has spread before having the r/c. Being 66 you may want to consider the outside bag along with the neo..but first things first, scans tests, second opinion!!!! Then recovery.
