Peter...many of us have had an ileus after RC..Its probably the most often complication of of an internal pouch....many of them will clear up on their own...i'm sure they had you on a NG tube and lots of pain killers. I had the same thing but unfortunately what happened to me was part of my small intestine got trapped under my ureter (due to a J-tube being pulled out incorrectly by my local uro) I did have to have a second surgery 9 days after the first....no picnic there. Hope it all clears up on its own.... Pat
Sorry to hear about your setback, hope you are feeling better soon.
How were you doing before this complication?
My uro warned me that various complications can occur after an RC.
Last Thursday morning I started having extremely severe stomach and by 6:00 in the evening the pain was up to a ten. Went to the emergency room and found out I had an obstructed small bowel associated with my RC. I may have to have additional surgery if problem persists. I spent a total of five days in the hospital. I received shots of morphine every six hours. Still feeling crummy and on a clear diet for a while. So if anybody with a recent RC has severe stomach pain, don’t rule out an obstructed bowel and get to your doctor/hospital ASAP.
