Skypilot,
You are one lucky guy, being in the hospital such a very short time. My advice is to eat small but protein rich meals while holding off on the red meats for awhile. I also had surgery and left the hospital weighing the same as when I entered 11 days earlier. I ate very little at the hospital and even less after release....no appitite...ate small meals that were protein rich and drank ensure....still I lost 20 pounds within two months...haven't gained it back as I still have little appitite...have had no digestive problems. Wishing you well...you sound like you are doing great...so far a real success story! Take care. Melodie

I would agree with the posts so far. My husband, Harry, was about to be released from the hospital after a week as he was eating solids but for some reason ??? his bowels just "shut down" and he was back to square one with a liquid diet waiting for gas to pass again...the doctor's ended up giving him a special PIC line (IV) for a nutritional drip because he couldn't pass the gas he needed to start eating solid foods. He ended up on that for almost two weeks along with some ice chips!! Total hopital stay was 28 days!!! We actually felt fortunate that it happened prior to his actual release, since we live three hours from the hospital...but I would definitely recommend going very slowly with the solids.

Don,
I to am surprised they would let you go before eating solids. I would stay on a course of soups, eggs, protein, nothing hard core . Introduce your bowels to heavier foods at a slow pace. You seem to be doing really good and you don't want to back pedal from here. You also need food to get back your strength, drink some ensure and boost. How about stool softeners, did they tell you to take those??
Did you loose any weight? You really need rest and some walking the first couple of weeks, don't over due it!!! Gene
