Most surgeries put you on antibiotics before the surgery for a few days.
I got Levaquin before mine.

I did get a post surgical infection, but it was not in the neobladder, it was my appendix.

Ask your surgeon if he wants you to be on a pre-surgery treatment.

Don, wash , wash, wash, your hands, and keep wash cloths and any towels clean, use them once...Gene has had no infections, but I might say we also were not over reacting and compulsive about the washing...just the norm for us....Ginger

Hi :)
I had 2 cases of c deficile shortly after my RC. I was told soap and water washing with care givers was required...the hand sanitizer is not enough to stop c deficile. Insist on it :) God Bless, Holly

Wanted to wish you well with your upcoming surgery. You'll be in our prayers. As far as an answer to your question...I don't know! I wish we knew so that they could be avoided. I think the nurses will tell you to take care when flushing the catheter-clean hands/gloves...after getting an infection in the hopsital with a fever spike and severe chills/shaking, I forced Harry to go to our local urologist when he spiked a fever at home and started to have some chills, although thankfully, not as severe as they had been in the hospital. After getting the antibiotic, within a couple days, he was feeling much better, in both cases. I'll wait to hear if others have more insight about them!

I will be having RC in 10 days. Is there anything I can do to keep from getting the infections that a lot of people seem to get after getting neo bladders. Well There of coarse is a chance I will get another type like indiana or extior pouch. Thanks In advance. ??? Don
