Hi Shoba

Thanks for the response.
I am feeling less anxious about this test now.
Sounds like it will feel like a catheter being inserted and relaxing is the key.

Hi Brenda,
I have had 7-8 cystoscopies so far. With flexi, it is not painful at all. You just feel a slight pinch when the scope goes inside . Just relax. It will be smooth.

Hi Brenda,

I know what it is. When I was diagnosed in November 2006 (T1 G2), I have read a lot via internet as well and I was totally scared. It is very difficult to be sensible. It has taken me a month after the diagnosis for starting to be more positive.
Best regards, Chantal

Thanks Chantal

I appreciate the response. I am not a wimpy person normally... I have had catheters before .... and kinda hope it feels like that. I think I have read too many experiences where people say it is painful and now it is making me excessively nervouse... fear of the unknown.

Dear Brenda,

Do not worry too much.
I have had 3 cystoscopies: 2 with general anaesthesia without any problems (the pain is totallly bearable) and the last one with the flexible. This last one was not painful at all you just feel some discomfort. I know it is not easy but try to relax especially the lower part of your body.
Take care and good luck, Chantal

Hi Everyone, I am Brenda, 39. I have had microscopic blood in my urine for three years now. This year my urine cytology test came back detecting abnormal cells... not cancer cells. My urologist is about 70 and he did surgery two years ago to stretch my urethra and to look up in my bladder for cancer and said all was fine. I also had an IVP two years ago and all looked fine. Last year I had the blood in my urine but tests came back fine... this year blood again but abnormal cells. I am scheduled for a cystoscopy in his office this coming Monday April 23rd in the afternoon. I have read so many stories that cystoscopy is painful that I have gotten myself really nervous about this test... I have read that if he uses a flexible it should be unpleasant at best.... I asked him three weeks ago if this test was painful... he said I would feel only pressure.... When my urine cytology test came back abnormal... he had vacation scheduled which is why the cystocopy was scheduled for three weeks later and he hasn't been in the office to ask if it is a flexible scope... so I guess what I am asking for are some replies that cystoscopy is not a totally horrible experience... and what do you guys think about a 70 year old urologist... on one hand I think he has seen alot over the years and is quite experienced and he did a good job stretching my urethra.....on the other hand....

I guess I just need some help calming my nerves.. in regard to this test.

Thanks in advance. :-/
