Scott,

Don't go self-diagnosing!  Kidney stones are a source of hematuria, and probably that or prostatitis are the most likely cause of your symptoms.  I think your doctor just stated bladder cancer was a possibility as bleeding (hematuria) is a possible symptom of bladder cancer.

But if your really worried try and get your cystoscopy moved up.  The whole procedure takes the urologist about 5-10 minutes, probably about 30 minutes if you include changing into a hospital gown and nurse prep.

I wouldn't be too concerned as from my experience, most of the people who self-diagnose bladder cancer don't have it.

Sorry to bug all of you. I don't have a dx yet, but I am concerned.

I began having a hard time urinating about a year ago.

I have had recurrent bacteria, blood, leukodyte esterase, proteing, RBC/HPF and WBC/HPF for the last year. I had a CT scan with contrast done, it showed some kidney and gall stones (the urologist said they aren't anything to worry about, not very big). My prostate is enlarged and irregularly shaped (my PSA was normal and my prostate not tender on DRE). My bladder wasn't fully distended so the CT scan wasn't effective. I am scheduled for a cystocopy on May 4. My urologist talked a little about bladder cancer, which alarmed me but I don't really know how much to be alarmed.

Anyway, a few more specifics - the bacteria in my urine is few, blood in my urine has been moderate to high levels, the leukocyte esterase is moderate, protein is 70 mg/dL, the RBC/HPF is 137 (normal is 0-2?), the WBC/HPF is 51 (normal is 0-4?).

I know it is asking a lot and I should wait until I have the cystocopy for a better answer but should I be concerned? I don't know how to gauge this, it's been keeping me awake at night, and all the other stuff that comes with anxiety.

Thanks,
Scott
