Jessica!

I’m so sorry I haven’t been on to see this sooner!

I’m sorry to read about what they found in your dads bladder. I’m keeping you and your father in my thoughts. I hope the TURBT procedure goes good and your dad has a good recovery time.

Ok so maybe he just mentioned the possibility of the BCG and My dad heard that he needed it. Hoping the surgery will be in the next two weeks. Thanks again.

One does not know until the path report is in. My URO guessed mine was low grade but, he surprised himself when it registered high grade. Most of the time BCG is not done on low grade simply because it doesn't respond as well unless there is a recurrence. I am not sure anyone knows why. However, if low grade that is a blessing as he will probably not have to go through that treatment.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Ok so now I’m wondering if the BCG will be done for either type because the doctor seemed to make it sound that way. I assume He has no way of knowing the grade just yet because he hasn’t done the biopsy. All he said was “bladder polyp...possible papilloma or superficial bladder cancer”. Maybe he was just talking about all the possibilities of the treatment? Is there any way he could know high or low grade just by looking????

Actually both high and low have a good % of recurrence. Hence the 3 month scope protocol for a year or 2 graduating to every 6 and 12. If low grade the word is normally "wait and watch" while high grade does need more attention. Thus BCG. It causes irritation, urgency, burning etc. I simply focused on "If this is the worst I face, then it is OK." Let's just hope your Dad's is low grade.

Thank you Alan!!! Good to know about the BCG. Seems like it would be uncomfortable. I’m just hoping him being in blood thinners doesn’t overly complicate all these things. Would you say there is a huge difference between low and high grade? Other than high tends to recur more often? Praying this is the least aggressive and invasive as possible. Doctor said he’s lucky this little thing bled because it was caught very early....which I’m taking as a blessing. Thanks again for all your advice! I hope my dad will have the same success as you!
