Hi, Olbrian:
I see Johns Hopkins come up on lists of major centers for bladder cancer on this forum (although it's in Baltimore). I had a radical prostatectomy without complications there in 2005, but I don't know anything about the bladder specialists.
Best wishes, Stu

Olbrian,

Welcome. I wanted to acknowledge that your post is being seen. I have no real knowledge about Virginia Hospitals so I am quoting an NCI list: www.cancer.gov/research/nci-role/cancer-centers/find. Also, getting a second opinion is almost always a good idea when muscle invasive if for nothing else fresh eyes and peace of mind. When you do your research make sure they do a lot of bladder cancer as most see prostatic cancer as a first line.

Hopefully, someone with first hand experience in Virginia can help.

Hello,

I am 51 years old, newly diagnosed, and need to find a doctor for a 2nd opinion from a high volume bladder cancer center. I live in southern Virginia, and have been seeing a urologist in Lynchburg, Va. Received my pathology report from my TURBT yesterday, and it doesn't look great. I meet with my urologist next week to go over the biopsy results.

I think I need to quickly find another medical team to take over since it is muscle invasive. The local doctors have long waits for every step in the process.

Next step suggestions? Would anyone be able to suggest best doctors in high volume center in Virginia or North Carolina for bladder surgery and cancer treatment / 2nd opinion?

Thanks!
