papilloma in bladder-Isn'tthat normal- Why remove

I, too, had a small bladder growth--found on cystoscopy after I'd experienced bleeding and had a scan that showed "something." As others have said, these kinds of tumors are not normal in the bladder and do need to be removed and biopsied. You can see from my signature information what happened with me. I just had annual check-up and remain all clear. You may be more familiar with colon polyps, which are quite common and most often benign. Bladder papillomas are another thing altogether.

Small TA Grade 1, May-06; recur (2 tiny), same, June-08; TURBTs both times. BCG begun July-08, dosage to 1/3rd May-10, completed treatment December-11. All clear since 2008.

Jones,

Welcome! I too had a papillary tumor. It was very small (see the bottom of mt signature). There was NO doubt on what to do, a TURB. After the pathology showed high grade we AGGRESIVELY went after it and I am now almost 10 years post. There is NO DECISION. Do it and for the vast majority it is a non event.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Jones,

Tumors in the bladder are not normal. Since you have had a cystoscopy, there must have been medical concern about the bladder or the possibility of disease.

I have no idea what you may have been reading, but the internet is full of unhelpful, useless and dangerous medical mis-information.

Until you know the status of the tumors you described you will have NO knowledge of the danger, if any, from the tumors. The tumors must be removed and a sent for a pathology report, which will help the doctor decide if monitoring or treatment is necessary.

From the limited info you posted, it appears that your doctor is spot on in his/her advice to remove and evaluate the tumors. Caught early, bladder cancer, if that is what is ultimately determined to be the diagnosis, is highly treatable. My thought: Listen to your doctor.

Below is a link to a general info website on bladder cancer. Look at it, and I suspect that you will quickly decide that addressing potential BC early is the right move.

The unfortunate fact is that no one can see at a cellular level. Until a pathologist looks at it everything else is an assumption. If you look at my signature and add many procedures such as this, one thing I know the only minor procedure is done on someone else. However for most on the forum TURB while not on anyone’s top ten was doable and not permanently disabling. If you have medical concerns or questions you really need to discuss them with your doctor. Never forget the key to bladder cancer is catching it early. Good luck.

My urologist found two papilloma in a bladder.

He wants to remove them. I feel that I could have more problems from the removal of them.

I have read articles saying that some urologists just leave them and monitor them.

He is scheduled TURB to remove them, and I'm more worried that he'll do more damage by fooling around in my bladder and removing them instead of just leaving

. Am I justified or paranoid?
