Size/location of tumor

3 years 5 months ago #50914 by sara.anne
The urologist will send the tumor to a pathologist who will make the determination of the type (low grade, high grade) and extent of the tumor. He will probably do an instillation of mitomycin (not a pill, but a bladder wash) after removing the tissue.

Once she has the pathology report (and it can take a week or so for it to come back) she will have a better idea of what she might be facing. If it is low grade, and there does not appear to be any spread, the uro will probably just recommend a careful watching regime....exams every three months for a while. If it is high grade and has not spread out of the bladder lining, it may be a recommendation for immunotherapy. But until the path report is back and discussed with the doctor, it is anybody's guess.

There are lots of people on this forum who have been where your friend is and now have many years of doing great with no recurrence. As to whether or not she needs a second opinion, that would depend on the path report and her urologist's recommendations. If it is "garden variety" with no complications, probably not. If it is a complicated situation or the recommendations do not "fit" the diagnosis, then absolutely a second opinion is in order.

Let us know what the results are!!

Wishing you both the best

Hello!

So the Urologist is 90% sure its Ta/T1 TCC bladder cancer. 10% its benign - surgery is scheduled to have it removed (also look at ureter/kidneys to make sure nothing is showing up there) and then to give her a pill to make sure it doesnt come back - any insight on this? Any foods to eat/not to eat? Should she get a 2nd opinion? A friend told me their father went through the same treatment - it recurred in year 4 and he went through chemo etc for 2 years then died so I'm not sure what to think?

Cynthia's answer still holds!!! There are lumps that are NOT cancer and some that are. Some of the larger ones can be low grade and some are high grade. Some of the high grade ones are not even "lumps" but more like a rash.

Until a sample is taken and sent to a pathologist for analysis, no one can tell anything other than there is "something" there.

I understand but the size of the tumor is that considered big? small? if it is cancer does the size of the tumor factor into the stage of cancer? If so is there a chart?

No one can answer that until your friend has a full evaluation by an appropriate medical professional. It could be many things and only the professionals will be able to tell you what you are dealing with.

Good luck

Hello!

Any insight on a friend with the following:

-some blood in the urine
-some pain when pushing on the right side of stomach.
-CT scan showed mass on the left posterior bladder 1.9cm by 1.9cm by 1.0cm

Any thoughts? If it is cancer - based on symptoms and size of tumor what stage?

Thank you.
