Yes, Cynthia. You are exactly right. My husband and I just discussed this today, as we both are smokers. We need to do this together. The day I found out I was pregnant, both times, I quit that day. Didn't want or need one. Why I can't just do that now, I don't know. I'm going to try very hard.

Thank you

Carrie, Good news and I am glad they are going to keep an eye on things. Now that I have said that give me a minute to climb up on my soap box....... OK This was a wake up call smoking can cause not only bladder cancer but about 17 others as well. As someone who smoked and has lost a bladder and a kidney I think I have the right to say I hope this will give you the strength to stop. Good luck and I am very glad you didn't need to join our club.

Hey! Just though I'd let you know I came back from the Urologist and it looks like everything is ok!!

They took a urine sample and said there was a "fair amount of microscopic blood, no leukocytes", but there wasn't any blood I could see. Then they did a cystoscopy and it was negative! Whoo! It wasn't bad at all. He wasn't in there for more than a minute. Then they put an IV in and did a CT w/contrast. It was negative as well except for some kidney cysts on both sides, which he said were fine and shouldn't be causing any symptoms. And he said I had a couple of ovarian cysts, but that those were pretty normal in women my age. The cool thing was my kidneys were completely stone free. That is just so awesome! At least I don't have those looming to strike at the most inopportune times.

He did say he's going to send my urine off for cytology. I guess because of the unexplained blood? He said some people just have weird blood in their urine. Maybe I'm just one of the weird ones. He wants to see me again in 6 months. I think I'm going to start a journal and write down all the times I see blood since it happens pretty frequently. Maybe there will be a pattern to this "weirdness"?

Just thought I'd share my good news and I wish all of you the very best with your conditions. Even though I don't know any of you, you'll all be in my prayers. :)

I have no idea how much it costs, Carrie. It is a pretty brief office procedure. My uro did it the first time I showed up. It will probably depend on how heavily he is booked for that day.

Thanks so much, Sara Anne. Do you know how much a Cystoscopy costs? I have insurance but it's not the greatest and I have met hardly any of my deductible this year. Is it an in office test, as in they would do it tomorrow at my appt or do you have to schedule it for later?
