first turbt

Well no, not EVERYONE gets a second TURB. However, clinical studies have shown that in a very significant percentage of cases, the first TURB misses things and a second gives a much more definitive diagnosis. If there is any doubt at all about a diagnosis, a second TURB is indicated. The second time, the urologist has a much better idea of exactly where in the bladder the suspect areas are.

In my case, the first path report showed low grade papillary, and numerous areas of "inflammation." When the doctor did a second TURB concentrating on the areas of concern, the diagnosis was CIS which has a much different prognosis and treatment plan.

Actually this is good news wrapped in bad news.
Everyone gets a second TURB to check for clear tissue that is cancer free.
Your Dr felt you needed more expertise than he has, so he did the right thing.... sent you to a specialist. This will put you on the right track for recovery.

Take a nice big deep breath and relax....... you'll be in good hands

Sorry that it didn't go as expected, but it sounds as if you have a good urologist. It has been shown in clinical studies that very often one TURB is not sufficient and your diagnosis may change a little after the second. Your urologist is right to send you to a place with more expertise in bladder cancer. Too often they just let things like this go.

I had a second TURB and it really refined the diagnosis so that the treatment I got was exactly what it should be.

Good luck
