Just had first TURBT

2 years 10 months ago #50492 by jeffrx
Finally had my first BCG treatment. I must say, it wasn't bad. I expect it will be worse for the next sessions once the immune response ramps up. For me, the most difficult part was the catheter insertion. Not really painful, but very uncomfortable. I'd definitely rather do this and hope it helps than do nothing!

12/2015 - TURBT, non-invasive T1, mixed grade, 3 tumors
1/2016 - Begin BCG weekly for 6 weeks

Jeff,

I found that after the 1st two instillations, I needed to stick around home base for a day. Burning and urgency usually compound the symptoms. Plus by week 8-9 (I was put on a 6 weeks, 6 weeks off then another round of 6 weeks)for a day or two after the instillation the urgency would hit and I had maybe 5 minutes to find a restroom. The day of the instillation by week 8-9 I had just seconds. Everyone, however reacts differently. Some worse, some less. The good news is it passes when done with treatment.

Anyway, ask away as questions arise, someone will be around to help!

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

My husband (52 years old, CIS) has had 9 BCG treatments so far. One time after voiding the BCG he did not hydrate as much and experienced more bladder pain. He makes sure to push lots of fluids after voiding the BCG which means being near a bathroom. He keeps a "travel" urinal in the car just in case and a brown paper bag to discreetly carry it inside to empty in the toilet. Best wishes on your treatment.

Husband's journey:
01/2015 1st cystoscopy
03&04/2015 TURBTs-CIS
07/2015 Finished BCGx6
08/2015 biopsy-BENIGN!
10/2015 Finished BCGx3
12/2015 Cysto, redness
01/2016 TURBT, Benign
04/2016 Cysto
05/2016 Finished BCGx3
07&11/2016 Cysto's
1/2017 Finished BCGx3
2/2017 Cysto, redness
3/2017 TURBT, Cysto...

I would skip on the tennis even if you feel ok.Give your system maximum opportunity to let the BCG do its work.

Thanks Sara. I guess I'll see just how lousy I feel and make a judgment call. Based on your response, I'll plan on probably not doing too much though. ;)
