Please get that second opinion from a Real Bc specialist.
I had Mytomycin after my TURB. But BCG is the real deal and RC is the only step if BCG does not work.
I hope you find a good DR who knows their stuff and fights this as agressivly as possible. It is the only way to go.

From what you report, your mom does need to seek another opinion. BCG does have side effects....but so does Mitomycin. And BCG is the drug of first choice, mitomycin less so. Mitomycin is often given in just one dose during a TURB....but that is a different thing altogether. AND you have a couple of really good options.

Hi, thank you for the reply and referral. The doctor told her there were a lot of nasty side effects with the BCG but he did not tell her any of the side effects of mytomyacin. He told her it was up to her which way to go but that with the BCG she had to wait 2 weeks after surgery and with the mytomyacin she could have it immediately.

We are definitely going to seek a 2nd opinion. This doctor missed the first re-occurrence during the scope and only noticed it when she asked him to show her where the first tumor was removed. This week when he came to talk to her he had her history all messed up and thought this was her 2nd recheck and that the first recheck was normal. I really have no faith left in his abilities at this point.

A second opinion would be a very good idea in her case. Dr Gary Steinberg at the University of Chicago Medical Center would be a good choice.

Did her doctor say why he recommended Mitomycin instead of BCG?
