Thanks Diane and for the other great input. Looks like there is also a little vaginal blood also (I am postmenapausal and had an oophorectomy this summer so should not be any). I am to see my gynecologist in 2 weeks anyhow so CT should be done and back by then. I'm thinking if there is something it will show it! Trying to still stay calm even though there may be 2 sources of hematuria.
That is good news that nothing found in the bladder.Hope your CT scans also show clear. There are many causes for gross hematuria that are not caused by cancer, such as exercise, use of certain drugs, formacion of kidney stones etc. and sometimes the cause cannot be found, but I don·t know how frequently that happens - I am pleased that your urologist is taking things seriously and trying to find the cause and rule out anything that may be important.
Thanks so much for the great feedback. I did have a cystoscopy this am and Dr. found nothing suspicious that may be causing blood. He ordered a CT scan to check urator and kidneys further. Hopefully that will be negative. Anyone know if it's common to conclude an unknown cause for gross Hematuria?
Yes, you are doing the right thing. Hematuria can be a sign of bladder cancer, as well as other things, so it is important to get this checked by a urologist.
Tomorrow he will look inside the bladder with a small camera device. If he sees something "suspicious" he will probably schedule you for a TURB (transurethral resection of the bladder) where he will take small samples to send to a pathologist for analysis. While he may have an idea of what the problem is from the cystoscopy, it is only after he...and you...receive the path report that you will be sure of a diagnosis.
Please remember that many cases of bladder cancer can be highly curable when found early, so you are fortunate to be seeing to this asap.
Wishing you the best

Laurajose, Thank you so much for your reply. It's quite unnerving isn't it? I wish you the best also. I only got in for tomorrow by calling to see if there was a cancel. Seems that urologist have very full schedules! I will plan to post again. I wish you well.
The good news is that you are doing the right thing in seeing an Urologist and getting tested to know what you are dealing with. Gross Hematura can be caused by at least a thousand things some more significant than others. Let's hope that it is not bladder cancer but if it is know that for the vast majority it is survivable with proper treatment. We are here if you need us and let us know what you find out either way.
