Cystology and FISH before Cystoscopy?

3 years 2 months ago #49547 by jim28
No plavix. Not even aspirin lately. But hopefully will get to the botttom of it soon. I've had it for over two years now on a regular basis but the doctors wrote if off to self catherizaton. Now that I'm not doing self catherization, it has beccome an issue.

Jim - one other thought out of the blue - if you are taking Plavix (owing to coronary artery disease and stenting) or any other blood thinner, that can also promote spontaneous bleeding. Just FYI. I have been on Plavix since 2006, and when I first showed blood in urine, the urologist thought that might be the cause, but of course the CT urogram showed otherwise.

T1 high grade transcell diagnosed 8/14/2015
TURBT 8/21/2015, removed tumor (17mmX14mmX11mm)
Repeat TURBT performed 9/25/2015
Pathology Report: no residual cancer detected
BCG planned starting in October

Jim,

Please keep us advised of any results as we all learn from each other! There is one other test that might be a possibility called a retrograde-pylogram. A tube goes through the bladder, ureters into the kidney reading as it goes. That is about all I know about it and obviously it is an invasive test, thus why it isn't used often.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Thank you Sara. In the end, it is what it is, and should know relatively soon. Just trying to put things in perspective and become more informed, so that I can push my doctor for the tests that I need, without subjecting myself to those I don't.

Jim,

I used the word "exotic" when I got a bad UTI after a cystoscope 5 years ago. The URO did some kind of extra culture and had me on antibiotics for a couple of weeks. I am sorry but, I have no idea what that "exotic" urine test involved except he suspected some unusual bacteria which were found.

As disconcerting the hematuria is, I have to think you have thought out all the possibilities from UTI's, prostatitis to all the other that it really looks like they may be the problem. Hopefully the cystoscope will give a final clue and it is very important as Sara Anne said in seeing CIS as CT Scans don't "read" that. At the same time the wife of a close friend and yet another friend have told me they pass blood with no known reason or cause. That isn't real assuring however it does occur.

You are right, Jim. I ALWAYS agree with Alan, but not quite here. Hematuria often occurs and then disappears for no known reason. And this is why bladder cancer is often late in diagnosis....primary care docs just aren't impressed when someone shows up with microscopic blood in the urine. My primary care doc (before I was diagnosed with bladder cancer) didn't even do a urinalysis for routine exams.

That being said, I have NEVER had any blood in the urine...even when I was being treated for UTI's...which turned out to be CIS!!!
