FYI: my left kidney was removed in 2005 due to bladder cancer, then stage 2 was headed into left kidney. Thus I only have my right kidney.

In March & April I underwent biopsies that shows carcinoma in situ in the mid area of my ureter.

I am having another biopsies June 4, 2015, to map the exact location in the ureter and they will also re-check the right kidney.

I cannot have my right kidney removed. it's the only one I have.

My at doctors at UMHealth are referring my history to a tumor board currently.

He is thinking of removing the cancer area of ureter and extended it to neobladder if possible.

Other options, removing my only kidney and ureter, not a good idea for me.

Has anyone experienced this issue, and what possible solutions that would allow me to keep my kidney and ureter without an external bag.

Thank you for your input all, God bless.

Jaytona, one other question, how did they detect the carcinoma in situ in your ureter.

Hi,Jayton I am in a similar situation as you, however as of yet my cytology has come back as suspicious and not positive. 6 cystos and ureterscopes since 02/14 have not been able to see any tumors. I have some minimal ureter wall thickening that may or may not be cancer. The recommendation is to have the kidney and ureter removed for best chance of a cure. I am scheduled to have same removed on 06/29/15.

You have had quite a journey with bladder cancer and I am sorry about this new chapter. We have had a few people over the years with the same type of situation and it has been handled in different ways. One had it on only one side and had the kidney and ureter removed and did well. I am living proof that one can do well with one kidney following Radical Cystectomy. One of my friends has had BCG treatments installed under a general anesthesia as his is also in the kidney I believe they use a tube through the kidney. He has been clear of the CIS for about five years. A second opinion from a center that handles a high volume of bladder cancer is always a good idea when dealing with anything that is not usually seen by most Urologists. Please let us know what you find out from your doctor.
