I am not familiar with individual urologists in your area...it is possible that someone may chime in with a suggestion. If you are blocked out of UPMC.....that is a problem. Probably the closest academic center for you would be the Cleveland Clinic. And I am sure that you are aware of Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Your situation is one reason why I STRONGLY think that any patient should be free to chose the doctor he or she feels comfortable with!!!

If remaining in Pittsburgh is the only option, you might discuss the situation with your gyn and get another suggestion. You need someone who is a "match" for you personality-wise and who has real expertise in bladder cancer treatment. Too many do mostly prostates.

Good luck to you

I am scheduled for my first TURBT tomorrow at Allegheny General Hospital. I have already decided that my current Urologist is not a good fit for me. She is stingy with info and I just do not feel a comfort level with her. My gynecologist, who first suspected bladder cancer recommended her. I am loooking for recommendations in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately due to the UPMC / Highmark infighting I cannot use a UPMC Physician or facility. Any recommendations appreciated. TIA
