I found note taking to be very helpful. Oh, yes it even forces the doc to slow down. Sure the doc has said it dozens of times BUT only once to you. What he is saying is important.

Thanks Mark. Yes it is pretty incredible the shape he's in. He's always been so health conscious. From all I've read I'm beginning to think there is something unrelated going on with this nausea and constipation. I'm getting him in to the doctor to try to address it. It's taking him over and slowing him down as one could imagine. But as far as the tumor goes...I'm making my notes of everything I'm learning so when the path report does come back I'll know what the doctor is talking about. Thank you so much!

Tina,

If the path report shows cancer be sure to understand the grade (1 is slow/low grade to grade 3 which is high/aggresive). Then the stage from T1 (just getting started) T2 which is invasive to the muscle all the way to T4. This site has more specifics in detail. Having grade and stage will determine what treatment is standard and as mentioned prior, if it is cancer, a second TURB is almost standard to be sure margins around a tumor are called for to properly stage this.

Sorry he has joined our "club" but, there is a lot or survivors here. With a Dad that can do that many pushups it tells me he is great shape for 83! That too is a tremdous positive. We will look to answering any more questions and usually some is lurking that can help you.

DX 5/6/2008 TAG3 papillary tumor .5 CM in size. 2 TURBS followed by 6 instillations of BCG weekly with a second round of 6 after a 6 week wait.

Nope. No nausea, until after the TURB was done, and that was because of a bad reaction to the antibiotic (Cypro).

Sometimes it takes them quite awhile to find things like cancer , but once they do, they can usually get it under control fairly quickly.

By the way any guy who can still do 150 push-ups a day at 83, is got to be one tough son of a gun! I haven't done a 150 push-ups in ten years. And I'm only 49. :blink:

Like the others said, please keep us posted on how he (and you) are doing.

I was dx almost 5 years ago and from the time of my cystocopy to the TURB was two weeks and the wait was difficult. I lost 10 pounds just worrying. During that time I had a CT scan and a MRI. Other than anxiety I had no symptoms while waiting. I have had 30 BCG treatments since and so far no recurrence.

Thank you Anita & Alan for the support and information. I am still very much in the learning process. My father never took medicare part b and only has the VA and I'm learning that you have to really be on top of things there or he will get lost in the system. So again, thank you for the education. I need to be fully armed to stay on top of his diagnosis and treatment. I'll keep everyone posted as it happens!
