It sounds like you have had a couple docs who weren't too concerned (hopefully that is good), but the sooner the tumor is gone, the better. If there is no progression into the bladder muscle, there is a great chance BCG (or other) treatments can control reoccurence. I had my TURBT March 9, 2011 and have had BCG treatments June/July of 2011 (6), Dec of 2011 (3) and June of 2012 (3). I think if one has to get cancer, bladder cancer is the one to have since they can actually go inside and localize treatment instead of using chemotherapty that can affect more areas than where the tumor is/was. I'm sure you both have read a lot about BC and procedures and treatments. I am one for a pretty strict diet, exercise and a POSITIVE attitude. Keep coming back to this site - the people on here are truly amazing - I think they can save lives!

I am sorry you have to be here but welcome to our site. Being told you potentially have a diagnose of cancer hits you like a ton of bricks doesn't it? Waiting for your pathology report is in some ways the hardest time spent in the whole process. Not knowing what you are dealing with leaves the door open to all possibilities doesn't it?
But remember that three quarters of all tumors found are non invasive and a good number of them are low grade and can be managed. Even if it is invasive and high grade it is treatable I am living proof of that eight years out. We even rarely hear of some that are found to be benign. I know that most of us tend to think the worst of a situation when we do not have all the facts but try to not go there until you know what you are dealing with. We will be here for you no matter your dx please keep us updated.

Hi Wayne's Team
That sure is a scary time when they say the word "tumor" for the first time. Just take a deep breath and get the TURB behind you, get the results and then plan with your Uro for the next step.
I was dx'd 6 years ago and right now I am cancer free. I know it is easier said than done, but try to relax and stay positive.
If needed, we are here for you,
Nancy

Wayne's team,

So glad that you and your husband changed doctors and that you are both receiving better care. Take a deep breath; this waiting is scary and not fun. Glad Wayne's surgery is in a week. In preparation for the surgery, cook and freeze a couple of Wayne's favorite meals; this will give him something to look forward to when he gets home after the surgery. Get a notebook and be prepared to take notes after the surgery; have the doctor draw pictures or whatever to help explain the surgery to you. God bless you. Know that we are here for you.

Doug was diagnosed in 2001 and is doing fine -- that's the hope part of my message.

Welcome,

I know how scary that statement is, but please remember that you will have to wait until the TURBT is done and the sample is sent to the pathologist to determine if the tumor is cancerous or not. The sooner you get that tumor out of the bladder the better.

I know a week seams like a long time, but it will go by quickly for you I hope.

Lets hope that your doctors assumption is wrong.

My husband and I had to recently change doctors when we did our new doctor asked what the old doctor did about the blood in my husbands urine sample a year ago??? We had no idea there was blood in his urine. Our new doctor followed up with 2 more tests and when both showed blood (not visible to us) in the sample he referred us to a urologist who did another test and said he was not as concerned but we should follow it up with an ultrasound. We did the ultrasound and it showed a possible mass in the bladder so we then scheduled a cystocopy test for last Monday and we seen the tumor (which looked like a bunch of cauliflower) and the doctor informed my husband he had bladder cancer and we needed to do TURBT surgery to remove it. WOW!!! what a way to start your week :( Needless to say this will be a long week but we are so thankful that it is only a week. Anything you can share with us that will settle us down and give us hope. We have read many of the posts and they have helped immensely I just worry that we have waited a year (unknowingly) to find this cancer.
