Hi Tim
I read your post with interest as I was in the UK taking care of my sister who was dying with breast cancer. I bought the book The Bristol Program by Penny Brohn in 1987 my sisters doctor directed me to this book she believed in the Program with all her heart I felt the quality of her life at the end improved so much from this program. I bought so many vitamins and herbs.Had one sister dying and one in hospital at the same time having a mastectomy.

Hello Mom
I have been having BCG for the last 4 years was diagnoised with cis have at times had positive biopses and neg cytology's then had the reverse. The BCG alone did not work for me had to have interferon with it.Last cytology was neg. I have had the treatments every 3 months for the past 4 years.I have at times had to miss treatments for having blood also for having too many white cells it can be dangerous having the BCG if you have an infection.
I am now facing having my bladder removed March 6 my bladder has been damaged from the treatments and biopses to the point it wont hold but about 3 oz. I feel like maybe after myt sugery I can get my life back and free from pain
Good luck to your son with his treatments.

We're going slightly off-topic here but there are studies that suggest that not only does coffee not cause bladder cancer but it's diuretic action may help prevent it. Better put the kettle on then! I'm not yet sure how it affects my neobladder really. I try and limit it to 2 cups a day.

And Mom

Here's a link to the Penny Brohn Cancer Centre site (they used to be the Bristol Cancer Help Centre here in UK).

www.pennybrohncancercare.org/index.aspx?o=1051

There's plenty of good sound nutritional advice on this site and even a page on the benefits of tea. The services are UKcentric but there's some sound stuff on here from some of the pioneers (in this country) of the nutritional approach to cancer).

All the best

Tim

Good luck, Mom!! And you are welcome... :)

Tim,

I 'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that has a hard time giving up the coffee.  I did ask my sweet and good Doctor if coffee causes bladder cancer, and he said "I hope not"  which I felt was a green light.  I can tell, however that coffee is a bladder irritant so I try to drink lots of water behind it.   I just don't know if I could face my day without it.  :o

I add dandelion along with other herbs to make an extract with brandy.  Dandelion is suppose to be very good for the urinary tract.  I personally believe that it is.....

Best regards,
Rosemary

Tim and Rosemary,
Thank you so much for your responses. I will pass on to my son. So far, he has stopped the coffee and takes a multivitamin, but am sure he will want to see your recomendations.

Lol. well, I'm back on the coffee again now but at that time found an excellent freeze dried dandelion root drink (very good for the urinary tract allegedly) that almost filled the gap. Almost.
