Can you tell me about Bladder replacement options

I did a search on Google for Dr. Manoharan. Looks like you are good hands there. He's the Director of Neobladder and the Bladder Cancer Center. Collaborated with Dr. Soloway on a number of books and articles. Here is some of his background: physearch.med.miami.edu/Documents/CV/MManoharanMano%20profile.pdf

...and here are a couple of reviews from people who seem think he is absolutely wonderful www.ratemds.com/doctor-ratings/80633/Dr-Murugesan-Manoharan-MIAMI-FL.html

Hope this information is helpful. Looks like you have gotten yourself to one of the top guys. Google him and I think you will find even more information that will help you feel good about your decision to go with him.

From one neobladder guy to a soon-to-be neobladder guy: It is MUCH less scary on my side of the surgery. Things will be hell for a couple days but life will be great real soon.

Alan,

Sorry to hear the chemo was unsuccessful, but I hope the surgery takes care of it!

Pat is the expert on the top doctors so hopefully, she will have something to share.

I wish you the very best on the surgery. Bring gum with you and chew it the day of or the next day. It's been shown to help send signals to wake up the intestines. Also, even though you won't feel like it--walk! This is critical for getting the intestines going and the sooner they do, the sooner you feel better. After surgery, when you are feeling all beat up and thinking "I'll be damned if I feel like walking, those guys are crazy", remember this post and the key phrase "the sooner they do, the sooner you feel better". It is one of the most important things that you can do to speed your recovery. You will feel like crap MUCH longer if you do not walk.

Also, even if it is a real pain, don't have them remove that NG (nasal/gastric) tube until you are sure you can tolerate liquids. You do not want them putting that sucker back in when you are awake--just trust me on that! :)

Let us know how it goes as soon as you can. We will all be thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way.

Sorry for the long delay, a great deal has happened. My chemotherapy was unsuccessful, I was unable to tolerate the chemo. I am scheduled for a RC on Mar 30. I had to change surgeons and hospitals due to being a high risk candidate. I am going to University of Miami and seeing Dr. Manaharan. Any information about either would be helpful. I am getting a Neo bladder. Thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Wow, Mike, I hadn't considered the skin loss. Do know Jim's skin is paper thin these days and VERY sensitive to anything. Our dog paws him and pow a big old under skin blistery blood bruise. Don't know what else to call it. He is pretty much healed up from the last batch and then tomorrow is his final chemo tx he had 6 mos of cis/gem. Wooo hooo!

Oh, wow. You just reminded me about the hair and the shower drain. Drug stores have these screens that go in the drains to trap the hair and the old skin that you lose. I lost lots of skin and couldn't figure out what it was in clogging the screens. Finally it turned out to be old skin.

I'm 70, retired heat/air contractor. After 4 months of keymo ileal conduit (IC) surgery removed bladder & prostate May 2010
