Yeah its a real problem finding someone who is experienced and not mad because you didn't let them do the surgery. And one of the problems with a local uro who doesn't deal with a lot of bladder cancer is not going to know whether you have an infection or not as the urine from the Indiana , or Neo , or even from the Ileal pouch is full of bacteria that would indicate infection...however not always the case especially if you have no symptoms. I get diagnosed with a kidney infection any time i have to give a urine sample in the hospital here......but i don't have one. Which is why i carry this in my purse at all times

I find it odd that Dr. S does not have someone on call for you to be in contact with.....resident or stoma nurse?? I always and still do have contact numbers and can call any time of the day or night to Cleveland.

Hi to all
What if you have your surgery at MD Anderson or Mayo or Cleveland clinic and live in Illinois doesn't a local uro see you then? What do those people do? Melodie I did find another uro closer to home but he also is also a (diversion) surgeon and so its harder to make appts and get seen. Maybe just a regular uro. Today Im going to my internist. For some reason I need to be on Bactrim or else UTI and SP infection comes back. I think its time to look to a new antibiotic or reason for all this I will see Dr Steinberg soon as he gets back in town if I can get an Appt. Thanks and love to all julie

Julie,

Sorry to hear of yet another concern which may need to be addressed by the good doctor - unfortunately, as I see it, most of the surgeons are available for surgery and technical meetings but otherwise, unavailable for most follow-up issues. Of course, this is why they often have the residents respond.

I wanted to see a local urologist following my RC so I wouldn't have to always drive the longer distance to see my doctor, and the local urologist didn't want to take me as a patient. So I would agree with Pat...it's probably tough to find someone who is willing to help resolve problems which they think the previous doctor should handle. When we talked on the phone a couple of weeks back, I thought you said you had found another urologist closer to home that would see you.

My goodness! I do wish things would settle down for you. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing you a much healthier new year. Hugs,

Hey Julie....yeah that area was sore for me also..no blisters but sore. If its healed why not put a little neosporin on it? Just an idea.
Most docs don't want to take on another uro's patient...unless Dr. S knows of one?

well its another weird thing to pop up for me. After 2 months after JP drain was pulled a blister appeared on the scar this morning. It was filled with clear fluid no pain and popped when I touched it.
My old SP drain infection is still alittle tender around that opening and maybe the infection has not been 100 percent cleared up. Called Dr S. today. Hes out of town again for a week so I talked to resident said to wait until infection or problem fully presents itself. I HATE THIS wait until I need to go to ER. I dont think the antiobiotics completly wiped out the old infection.
I wish they would really LOOK at the culture!! Sorry for the complaining just had to vent!!! Im trying to find a uro or Doc that I can use along with doctor S. Any suggestions?? I live in suburb of Chicago
