Well the phenergan worked for me..made me sleepy but that was ok......i used the Ativan when i got home as i still got daily bouts for a while.'
How are Julies blood panels..i know they check them every day as i was sure they thought i was a pincushion before they let me out of there. Make sure potassium is ok...that can cause a lot of nausea if too high. Sometimes i think they just do the tests and never read them.
What is the consistency of the diarhhea...? Is it mucus, is it like coffee grounds..*thats what i had at first which was old blood coming out from the surgery......
One would wonder what could possibly be coming out at all after the bowel prep...unless he didn't do one?
Make them change the nausea meds. Jump up and down and scare them a bit..it gets their attention.

Julie - This is Melodie - have called your house last couple of days to find out how you were doing - didn't think to check here - dah ! Anyway, when I had my RC, I wasn't able to hold anything down and nothing worked for me, then I asked for some Ativan...my hospital apparently didn't usually give Ativan, but when I asked for it, they did give it to me. I guess some feel it is addictive but I never had any problem with it. I took it prior to surgery when I was doing chemo and found it worked better for me than anything else....I was 6 or 7 days post op by the time I finally got the Ativan and went home on day 10.

Hope your family got the message I left on Saturday - suggesting they go out and find you some "cute" and "soft, comfy" men's boxer shorts to wear for the trip home. When I was discharged from the hospital I had tubes and a Foley catheter connected to me and could not wear any panties so I left the hospital with no underwear on. Another Indy pouch friend, Robin, here in Seattle suggested men's boxers and I think it's a great idea.

You continued to remain in my prayers. I hope things soon turn around for you and you will on your way home...with pillow on tummy. Hugs,

I can't tell from the posts if the intetines have started moving yet. Perhaps the diaharreah is just the lower bowel kicking out mucous. I can definitely remember the intestines starting to waken up because the gas is definitley painful at first. Others who I've spoken to reported the same thing. I'd venture that the gas moving through is not something you'll miss. Until then, most places will keep you off liquids ands certainly off solids.

Hi Pat,

This is Julie's husband Tom filling in. Julie is getting zolfran (when julie specifically asks for it) but it has not been all that effective.
