JJ,

Yes, I figured you were kidding.
This was my first one. My general surgeon (repaired my kinked intestine and also did my incisional hernia surgeries) suggested I get the colonoscopy just for a baseline. Since he had gone over every inch of my intestines manually (twice) when he did the repair on the resection point, he figured I was fine and just needed one because I'm 51 and didn't get one yet.

Before the procedure, they told me I have to get one every 10 years after this one. After the procedure, they changed it to every 5 years because they found/removed some polyps. The doc's report said "No concern" though so I'm not worried about it. I get the pathology report next week to confirm but if he's not worried, there is no reason for me to be.

Sure would have preferred to be on the 10 year plan though!!! :D

Thanks Mike, I just hope I remember to check my list of tips before the next scope. I still have a couple of years respite as I had just had one prior to the arrival of my bc. I sure hope the next one doesn't bring a similar surprise with it. If so, it'll be the last. Just don't think colonoscopy should bring unrelated gifts. Hope you realize that the it'll be the last was only a joke, as I do believe in screening for what we can reasonably screen for.
Thanks again for the tips

JJ,

I just had mine the other day. My pre-procedure instructions were:
4 days before: Stop eating nuts, corn, or seeds.
1 day before: Eat breakfast. Eggs (boiled or poached), chicken, turkey or fish (not fried), hot cereal. Clear liquids.
1 day before 4PM: Take two 5mg Ducolax tablets.
1 day before 6PM: Drink 1.5 bottles of lemon magnesium citrate.
Continue drinking lots of clear liquids.

Day of: 4 hours before. Drink 1.5 bottles of magnesium citrate with 16 ounces of water. Stop all fluids and don't even chew gum or mints.

I think the mag citrate is LOTS better than that other stuff (based on what I hear--I never had the halflytely stuff).

I'm pretty sure I was well cleaned out by the time of the procedure at 11AM and I never had any nausea. I don't like the mag citrate all that much so I would drink a gulp, drink some water or some beef buillion broth, take another drink, etc.

Mike

That's from memory because I threw out the prep sheet. I think the only other thing on it was pretty much a list of what is and isn't clear liquid (no red, purple, etc.).

Just in the fridge. Maybe I'll try it iced on the next go round. Thanks for the tip. Also plan to begin my personal prep a couple of days ahead by lightening up on food intake and switching to clear liquids 12-24 hours earlier. Best wishes

Just curious. Have you ever tried it using very, very cold water?
