lena..make sure your doctor knows ALL of the medications and dosages she is taking.
NSAIDS taken for arthritis with not enough water can actually damage the kidneys and cause them to leak.
It might be that simple.
Have him check the drug list and when she takes them...
calcium can also lower the effect of her thyroid meds if she takes them together.

Lena,

There is a difference between being prepared for the worst and reacting as if it already is the worst with no evidence to support it.

If a child has a cough we don't jump to the conclusion that it is COPD or throat cancer without evidence. We assume that it is just a cough. A bug bite is not necessarily a fatal spider bite.

Blood in the urine is different so we first want to rule certain things out (like bladder cancer) and then test for other things to see what it is. It is often nothing but should not be ignored.

The doctor would likely have done a blood test on your mom. Blood and urine tests are the first things used in determining if there is a problem with the kidneys. There are lots of things OTHER THAN cancer that are possibilities. A CT scan or MRI is another diagnostic tool to look at the kidneys. Most likely, the CT scan she is getting will look at the bladder and kidneys and surrounding tissue.

Diabetes (as Pat already mentioned) or high blood pressure can lead to kidney problems. Has your mom been generally healthy? Has she been on any medication that requires keeping an eye on the kidneys? Lots of medications can cause problems with the kidneys and many of those are minor or require a dosage adjustment or a different medication.

As to which is worse. Not sure. Is it better to get run over by a Ford truck or Chevy Truck? Neither would be pleasant. With kidneys, you have two and can live just fine with one. With bladders, you only have one. Both are treatable if caught early.

You've not mentioned how your mom is feeling about all of this. How is she doing/feeling?

Lena...did you see my top uro's in the LA area at USC/Norris?
The CT scan would show anything in or around the kidneys...there are several urine tests, just plain cytology, NMP22, and FISH test which will find irregular cells.....a urogram can test the ureters and kidneys.
A biopsy done while awake just took some superficial tissue for observaton of irregular cells. If those look suspicious then a further look is required.
one step at a time.
When i was diagnosed i had gross hematuria...a LOT of blood...i went to the hospital..had a 3D CT scan which is a bit more advanced than the regular CT and it showed a very small tumor. The next week i had a cystoscopy which showed the tumor. I then went for a TURB in the hospital for resection into the muscle for proper diagnosis. I had blood work done. I then sought a second opinion based on my diagnosis. ONE STEP at a time.

I really thank everybody,
I know I dont have to worry now that we r not sure but I am trying to prepare myself for the worst case. I am new to this and there are lots to learn.
I am wondering if there is anything wrong with the kidneys would ultrasound show any kind of mess or tumor, stone polyp or is there also something similar to cystoscopy but specifically for kidneys??? Is the bladder cancer easier to b diagnosed than the kidneys ? and which one is worse ?

thanks for all your helps and supports
May god bless all of you and keep you healthier and healthier each and everyday and make you free of any cancers for years and years.

You're not dissappointing me. I'm trying to support you.
I am worried about you because you are getting so stressed out and that is not healthy.

It sort of seems like you have decided this is bladder cancer with no evidence that it is (unless I've missed some evidence here). I don't understand why you are jumping to the conclusion that it is cancer when tests have been clear so far and the doctor is following up with more tests to try to determine the actual cause.

As I said in response to one of your other posts or PMs, the CT scan covers a broader area of the abdomen and not just the inside of the bladder (like the cystoscopy).

That's why he would order that test.
