DeDe..just a bit confused on your post.
Which doctor said it was fast growing...urologist or Gyn?
The ovarian cyst might just be an ovarian cyst.
A 5cm tumor requires a bit of skill to resect and get all of the tumor, part of the muscle, and clean margins. Are you with a local urologist who has performed many of these or with someone at the U. of Oklahoma like Dr Wong?

Thank you so much for the information, Mike. I thought that would be the approach, but wasn't sure. When you are hit with this in the doc's office - your mind goes blank & you don't think of all the questions you want to ask until later. Thanks again & God bless you!

Other than being completely beside herself with worry, a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, potentially bladder cancer, I doubt the bladder has anything to do with cognitive ability.

No, they don't take the bladder out when they do the TURB. They will remove the tumor, hopefully, get good margins around the tumor and get it biopsied.

The pathology evaluation will be to determine stage and grade. Then they will talk about treatment plan.

Ovarian cancer is pretty darn serious also.

Unless there was some other analysis you didn't mention, you don't know that she has bladder cancer yet. She has a 5cm bladder tumor. The pathology will indicate if it is indeed cancer. Hopefully, it is a low grade bladder cancer, in which case they will most likely just remove the tumor and then take a 'watchful waiting' approach to see if it comes back.

That will allow them to focus on the ovarian cancer.

Hope all goes well.

Mike

Hello, everyone. I'm so glad to find this site. My 90 year old mother-in-law who NEVER goes to the doctor started having what she termed 4 months later as "peeing pure blood" in her urine. We didn't find out about this until a few weeks ago. We got her into see a urologist & he did a CT scan & a cysto & determined she had a 5cm bladder cancer. He is going to do a Transurethral resection with fulguration on Wednesday. (This woman hasn't had even a pap smear or exam for almost 50 years!)My husband is under the impression that when he does the treatment Wednesday that if the cancer is into the muscle &/or wall of the bladder that they will remove it at that time. I am not finding anything about that in all the research I have attempted. What is the normal procedure? Will we have to wait for the results of the biopsy of that & a later date? She also has a 6cm cyst on her left ovary & the doctor wants a GYN to do a laproscopic look at the same time so she won't have to undergo anethesia again. GYN had her come in for a CA-125 test on Friday. We just got the diagnosis on Thursday August 12 & he said it was a very fast growing cancer. I'm wondering what to expect. She has not been able to stay by herself since Thursday because she is so worried & upset by the news. How long will she need care if it is only localized in the tumor? Also we have noticed she is having extreme difficulty in her cognitive abilities - so am concerned it may have spread or she may only have dementia. Thank you for any replies &/or guidance. Also any recommendations for a doctor in the Oklahoma City area?
