Thanks for that, private referral might be the way to go but fingers crossed all clear in 9 weeks time. Thats another point, I always thought it was routine to do CT scan but Southend said no as was only superficial. All too confusing sometimes!

Take care

Hi Barney

Good news that it would appear your friends tumour is superficial, I'm sure the Southend doctors are doing the best thing regarding treatment.

From our experience, your friend can either self-refer to the Royal Marsden (just check out the Marsden website on how to do this) or ask for a GP referral. This is the way we did it, we weren't totally happy with the local response so I did some research on the Marsden and found the leading consultant and asked my mums GP to do a private referral. Private referrals are expensive (£350) but you can also ask to be seen on the NHS.

The Royal Marsden is the leading cancer hospital in the UK, so you can't go wrong going there, even if it is to double check what the Southend doctors are doing.

My mum is about to start her 4th chemo, its been tough, but we have recent CT results which suggest the treatment is working.

Best wishes
Moglie

Hi Moglie, Hope this isnt duplicated as last reply disappeared, anyway hope you had a good holiday. My friend is halfway through a 6 week course of Mitomycin followed by a 6 week break then a look with a camera to see if its worked. How do you go about using 2 hospitals as the Royal Marsden advised me to get Southend team to refer then a 2 week wait for appt? My friend wants to try this course first then see what happens. They are saying she is Grade 2 superficial and they are not worried (strange!)I hope your Mum is coping ok with her treatment and you are staying strong, Its hard I know.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi, sorry I've been on holiday for the past two weeks and doing research for mum, sees me visiting many sites.

Like Anne has said Barney, my mum is looked after locally on the south coast (Poole) but is being also seen by Dr Huddart at the Royal Marsden. He in particular is an expert in radiation treatment for bladder cancer (IMRT).

I'm not sure of your diagnosis, but we considered the journey time 2.5 hrs one way to be not a consideration when we first found out about mum.

Good luck.

Moglie

Anne - hope you are doing ok.x

The Royal Marsden is considered one of the best in the UK so worth a punt. Moglie - another user - is using them for her mum - maybe she will chime in.
Good luck!

Hello all and thanks for your valuable input.

Betsy- I'm based in Essex so probably quite a way from you. Do you think a good choice would be Royal Marsden rather than Southend, which is where i have my appointment Monday?

Pat - thanks and will see what team have to say but will probably opt for second opinion from Royal Marsden. Maybe they want to discuss R/C option and looks like Royal would be better choice.

Thanks all again

Barney
