Kind of an eye opener! Bladder Cancer gets ..what...about 3 cents for research right?....Breast Cancer gets about 3 billion zillion for research.
Well guess what...they're not any further ahead than we are. They're finding breast cancer earlier but deaths are still up there. There is no good second line of treatment once it decides to leave the original site.
A really great surgeon will know how to get margins with bladder cancer. A really great breast cancer surgeon doesn't know if they've got the margins? HUH? Why not? Invent a Hexvix light or something...quit studying the habitats of mice in guatamala.
The gold standard after lumpectomy is 6 weeks of radiation EVERY DAY....yuck. There is a new machine out there for partial radiation intense beam, of course, which is twice a day for 5 days but the caveat is the tumor must be a single tumor and no spread. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that one.
So off to Memorial Sloan next Wednesday for consult and see what they have up their sleeve.
Pat
