Steph, I'm sorry to mislead, I'm just trying to keep my sense of humor about the pouch full of stones. I have had 10 lythotripsy's in the last 4 years to break up kidney stones. No one has recommended the neo, I just feel it's the best choice for me. Jim

Boo, what kind of stones do you have in your history? And did the surgeon recommend that reason for neo or did the urologist?

Just curious....

Thanks Jack, I am going to go with a neo-bladder with urethra diverson.
I have a history of kidney stones, and the pouch would get heavy full of stones.

Pat, I guess that what be reason number four for me since I had 30 radiation treatments following testicular cancer.

Hi Jim and Boo....glad you came over to our site. Lots of men here willing to help you and guide you through this.
So glad you got that second opinion. Your doctor is right...get that sucker out of there. Ask the doctor about nerve sparing and let them have the prostate too as the cells tend to want to wander into that area also.
So sorry to hear of the testicular cancer...i can relate to that on the caregiver side of things. My son was diagnosed with testicular cancer at 30 and thats one mean regimen of chemo but at least they know how to cure that one. My son's doctor the same as Lance Armstrongs at Indiana U Med Center. Now that actually alarmed me and i found that any radiation (which he did not have) or the chemo agent cyclophosphamide can put you at risk for bladder cancer and i actually can't remember if he got that or not. Another thing to worry about.
Good luck with your impending surgery.
Pat

Hi Jim

Welcome to this wonderful site.

Very proactive of you to get a 2nd opinion so quick. I congratulate you on this.
I am curious as to what type of new bladder you are considering.
Please keep us posted on your journey. There are many here who can share their personal experiences with their bladder replacement.

I wish you all the best with your upcoming operation.
Regards,
Jack

Hello friends, New member here.
March 2nd I had a TUR. My local urologist told me he was pretty confident
that it wasn't cancer.
March 5th, path report not only proved it was cancer,
but poorly differentiated, 70% glandular. But it was noninvasive to the muscle.
Doctor suggested 6 weeks of BCG.

I sought a second opinion at U of M hospital.
I saw Dr. James Montie. Dr Montie recommended removing the bladder due to,
One, the high grade of the cancer, two, this type of cancer wasn't very receptive to BCG, three, my father, and his father both died of bladder cancer.
For selfish reasons, I am not thrilled about bladder replacement, though I am thrilled that I do have a choice for life, which my father didn't. My father saw the same Urologist group who, gave him BCG, resection, BCG, resection, etc, until it went through the bladder wall and killed him. By the time he went to U of M, it was too late. I personally chose not to gamble with my life, that BCG may, or may not work. I am lucky enough to have found it early enough, and can take the proper steps to live. He would also like to take the prostate at the time. I am still not sure about that. But, testicular cancer at 30, bladder cancer at 49, I think we all know what's next.
I have an appointment April 8th, to give the go ahead for replacement surgery.

I would like to thank everyone who contributes to this site. I feel as if I have gained enough knowledge to do a TUR or RC myself. Kidding.
You are wonderful people. I am looking forward to being a cancer survivor for the second time.

Jim (Boo is my cat)
