i'm not really angry....frustrated maybe. I just think we in this country are living irresponsibly. I think back to a simplier time when my grandmother cooked everything with a coffee can filled with lard or left over bacon fat...no heart disease in that family. And growing up you heard about Polio and TB but never Cancer. Now i feel its almost at epidemic proportions...i can't believe i'm the only person who has a cluster around them of friends and family that has some type of cancer. In the past 5 years my son has had testicular cancer (thankfully there is a CURE for that one developed at Indiana University) My Father had Prostrate Cancer (early stage and curable)..i got bladder cancer, my ex-husband got Prostrate Cancer followed by neck cancer ( he just had all his teeth pulled due to radiation and they said it was unrelated to the Prostrate cancer???)my ex-sister in law has a rare form of blood cancer and just underwent stem cell transplant and is on a respirator!...My best friend at 38yrs diagnosed with colon cancer...another very close friend with breast cancer...and another with non-hodgkins lymphoma!....Thats a lot huh? And i'm finding out where and by whom you're treated can determine your outcome. I won't even go into my oncologists office anymore..its too depressing...its packed. I let my internist do my blood work. i'm just sad not mad.

Patricia,

I do want you to know that I hear your anger and frustration.  It is even worse when we hear conflicting reports from researchers.  One minute coffee
does and the next minute coffee doesn't and the same with green tea.
One minute green tea is suppose to help and the next study says that it doesn't.
What are we suppose to think :-?

But, I don't see how we can live and be afraid of breathing the air that we have, or drinking the water that we drink.

At one time I wanted to blame my parents for my cancer.  They smoked around us kids constantly with the windows rolled up in the car, and then my mother smoked when she was pregnant with me.  But how can I blame them when I had 4 siblings who grew up with me and who do not have any kind of cancer at all?

Please don't think that I don't care about your feelings.  That is not true at all.

Your friend,
Rosemary

Patricia,

My goodness, you are upset.  It might be better if I just stop talking about this.  I seem to be suggesting reasons for your cancer.  And really, I don't think that anyone knows the reasons for this cancer.

However, here is the thread that helped me through with the very issues that you are having now.

Stop........I take a bath every night whether i need it or not!!! Ok everyone who takes a bath will get bladder cancer! I'm surprised they didn't put that on the list along with cigarettes, dyes, and other probable unrelated things!. You could add Teflon coated pans that we didn't know released carcinogens or how about a grilled steak? Now even the tuna fish we're not supposed to eat more than once a week because of mercury....I really don't mean to drive you nuts Rosemary...its just that i don't believe its a hand we're dealt.....i believe Greed is responsible for most cancers....Greed on the part of farmers to quickly fatten up their livestock to get it to market with antibiotics......Greed with the use of pesticides to make a prettier product.....totally irresponsible disposal of waste on the part of industry. Or how about the fact that women have been on estrogen and progesterone for years and years....doh........ Heaven forbid they find a cure.....too many people would be out of a job.......they'd have to find a new disease........Oh right thats what they did when they found the cure to TB....guess what cropped up......yep Cancer.....Oh and lets not forget heart disease with all our transfats and fast foods. I guess i've gotten to the "I'm Mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" stage!!!

Patricia and Joe,

Please don't hold me to what I wrote only a week or two after diagnosis.  I was not in my right mind.
Please let's not panic about peanuts.  Or walnuts.  My doctor eventually calmed all my little fears about living everyday life.  He convinced me that I had cancer because it was the hand that I was dealt.

In fact, when I was here at the forum one time very early on,  I was moaning about being low risk, and one of the posters here told me that she had been BORN with bladder cancer.  In other words, quit moaning and deal with it.  That was how I took it, and it was good advice.

So that is what I decided to do.  It really isn't productive to wonder why.  However, my mother now insists that I now take showers instead of baths.... :-X

Dr. Weil is a well known, well published naturopathic type of Doctor whom I only quoted because I googled peanuts/cancer/aflatoxins...

Rosemary who is Dr. Weil? OMG i just started a regimen of Walnuts because in Greece they have no cholesterol problems and they believe its because thats a staple...a handful a day...about 8 whole ones. It helps carry the fat out of the intestine and raises HDL. Now these come from my brothers walnut trees in N.California so maybe the fungus hasn't gotten to them yet ?...Geez........So now my cholesterol is down and i'm eating carcinogens!!! Heck i quit the spinach....and a couple of weeks ago it was the tomatos.....trade the ecoli for bladder cancer?.....I read something a long time ago about Flagyl an antibiotic connected with cancer. There are a lot of drugs on the market which doctors give which are really last resort drugs that are known to cause cancer later in life. I grew up in a Pharmaceutical family and the stories i could tell you there!...Doctors only have to take a 6 week course in Pharmacy.....Pharmacists take 6 yrs to get their degree or at least they did when my father became a pharmacist. So guess how really knowledgable they really are about drugs and interactions.....! And now they're saying homocystenes play the real role in heart disease....... Anyway i wonder if truckers because they sit for long periods of time and need to make time to make money don't hit the bathrooms as often as they should? I know i was in a job where the phones rang constantly and i was running the show and lord help me if i took a potty break!! I'm not giving up my peanut butter!!!!!!!!!!!!
