I have some anti-spasm meds from the first time , and I always drink cranberry juice.
The main complaint the first time was blood clots , and the uro told me he intends that not happening to me again. He was very angry that I had to unnecessarily go through all that.

I tolerate pain well, so should be ok. Plus cannot tolerate most pain meds. I practice mind control usually and it works well for a lot of the pains I have had except extreme operations.

I'm feeling more and more optimistic :)

Tim -- Thanks for jogging my memory. I had a medicine called Phenazopyrid (200mg)
that is a generic for Pyridium that handled any stinging in my two turbts. --

i think you should be prepared for the possibility of some discomfort. I had over 40 turbts prior to my cystectomy. some were really quite painful afterwards - particularly as mentioned above, during urination post-procedure - and some I was astonished to find left me with little problem. Im a man so it's probably different for us as our urethras are a lot longer amongst other factors. my advice would be to have some cranberry juice to hand as this absoloutely reduced the stinging sensation by neutralising acidity in the urine. also, if you can, take pain meds as a prevention for pain. getting rid of pain, in my experience is harder than stopping it in the first place. your doctor should be able to advise you about anti-spasmodics for the bladder. I never used them but they are available. hopefully everything will be fine but prepare for the possibilities and you'll do ok.

all the best

tim

Hi -- There can be bladder spasms. In my experience, if I had them, they didn't last even 1/2 minute. -- Susan
