Hi guys, Well I saw the ortho dr today and I don't have to have surgery on my rotatorcuff. There are two small partial thickness tares , fluid in the joint and tendiitis, I did end up getting a shot in the deltoid muscle because of the tendiitis in it . It was all bunched up and as hard as a rock.
The dr told me I could carry a back pack as long as I didn't hurt to bad. Yea! To bad I didn't know last week when I was on the at trail in georgia and coulda hike for a week. That is my dream to hike the entire appalachain trail all 2000 some miles.
Maybe it could be as a bladder cancer awareness trip. Wonder how may of you all live along the trail. It goes from Georgia to Maine. The hard part would be leaving my grandkids and hubby for 6 months. I would do it next year if he still showed no sign of the lymphoma he HAD.
Sara Anne I start p therapy on it next week cause the shoulder was freezing up cause I couldn't get the deltoid muscle to move right. I hate goig to p.t. don't mind the work just giving up the time and twenty mile drive. God is good isn't he no surgery yea !rocky

Rocky, I had the surgery in early November and went to Antarctica in late December. However, I wore a sling on the airplane since my ortho told me that I am NEVER to lift more than 5 lb over my head. Wearing the sling a. reminded me not to try to put my bag in the overhead and b. reminded nice young men to help me!!

Not exactly sure about how I did this...However I was getting ready for a garage sale prior to putting my house on the market and carried MANY boxes of junk up a flight of stairs. Think this hurt it. He said it was a pretty bad tear. It doesn't hurt at all now, and really didn't once the surgery healed....several weeks.

He said that NO ONE over 50 should lift over 5 lb above shoulder level, rotor cuff issue or not.

Good luck.

Hi Guys , Thanks for the info Pat, I had found some but this link gave me more.
Sara Anne, How did you hurt your shoulder ? Did it take you long to recover, and you say it is ok now. I see the ortho on thru. I hate the thought of not being able to throw a pack on my back and go. That was always a stress releaver for me. Thanks guys . Rocky

Oh Rocky....that HURTS. Yes, been there, done that. Had it repaired (open surgery, not arthoscopic) about three years ago. Ironically, it was right when I was about to be diagnosed with bladder cancer! Not fun, doable. Three nights in the hospital. Wonderful surgeon. Don't ever want to do it again.
BUT it sure doesn't hurt anymore.
