Heather,

Bladder spasm and incontience have been a problem for me both after TURBTs and both times during and following 6 weeks of BCG . Not 'going' has not been an option, but fortunately, the holding capacity is also reduced. . My uro says, "yes, some people have that problem, it will get better after a few weeks". For me, it is a couple of weeks after treatment before the bladder starts to settle down.

My answer is Depends, or other brand or adult diapers - I hated the idea, but it is a workable solution. Took a bit of trial and error to find the right fit so that I could be secure in knowing everything was contained.

The diaper route's value is that it buys you time to get to a reasonable place to deal with the bladder spasm or release. It beats standing along the side of the road pretending to check your tires or radiator, hoping that no one will stop with an offer to help.

Best
Jack

Hi everyone!

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in May and had cysto with TURBT #1 a week later. It was a huge huge tumor, stayed in the hospital for a few days with a foley catheter, they removed the catheter prior to discharge and I had no issues. I had TURBT #2 on June 20 where they removed the rest of the tumor. I did so "well" during the procedure and there was less tumor to take out this time, so I was discharged home that day with the foley catheter. I passed my voiding trial four days later, so the foley got to stay out.

Now I'm having bladder spasms if I don't immediately go when I have the urge (and sometimes it's not an option, meeting at work, driving, etc) but luckily no incontinence. The spasm persist for an hour or two after. It's not painful, just annoying, especially when I try to go to sleep. Pyridium helps to a certain extent and my urologist says my bladder is still healing.

Any tips for bladder spasms? Dealing with them or avoiding them? (Other than pulling over to the side of the road and just going whenever the urge hits!) I'm scheduled for BCG x 6 weeks starting next month and I've read spasms can be a side effect of that too!

Thanks!

Heather
